Lodgenet Now Delivering Interactive Entertainment to over 700,000 Hotel Rooms

SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Jan. 4, 1998 -  LodgeNet Entertainment Corporation (Nasdaq: LNET) today announced that its interactive entertainment system is now being delivered to more than 700,000 guest rooms in the United States, Canada and internationally through select international licensees. More than 596,000 of LodgeNet's domestic rooms are receiving guest pay services, and 549,000 rooms feature LodgeNet's patented Nintendo(R) in-room video game systems. The company also reports that it has installed the first 1,000 rooms with Nintendo 64(R), its next generation video game service.

"1998 was simply an excellent year for our company," said Scott C. Petersen, President and CEO of LodgeNet.

"We are proud to have posted another year of solid growth in all of our areas. For the third consecutive year, we broke through another 100,000 room mark by adding nearly 85,000 hotel rooms to our LodgeNet room base. Our on-demand technology is now in 97% of our rooms, while Nintendo game products are in 92%."

LodgeNet offers a broad array of interactive services by utilizing the high-speed, two-way digital communications design of its proprietary b-LAN(R) system architecture. LodgeNet guest pay services include on-demand movies, in-room video games, and other interactive entertainment and information services such as guest surveys, folio review, video checkout, interactive shopping and Internet access. LodgeNet also offers basic and premium cable services.

"The continued impressive room base growth we experienced in 1998 was the direct result of all LodgeNet employees maintaining a clear focus on our core lodging business. This focus allowed us to maintain our status as the fastest-growing provider of interactive guest room services in the industry," said Petersen. "We are also pleased to report that our transition to the advanced Nintendo 64 game platform is right on schedule and is already receiving a tremendous response from hotel customers."
