Patriot American's Grand Bay Hotels and Resorts Updates 1999 Plans

NEW YORK, Jan. 13, 1999 -  Grand Bay Hotels and Resorts has entered the new year with two new properties: Las Casitas Village, a luxury property adjacent to the Wyndham El Conquistador Resort Country Club in Puerto Rico, and Grand Bay Hotel Isla de la Navidad near Manzanillo, Mexico. The former is also the site of Grand Bay Hotels and Resorts' first new Golden Door Spa, the preeminent brand the company acquired in Spring, 1998. The original Golden Door Spa is in Escondido, California.

With Las Casitas Village, Grand Bay Hotels and Resorts makes its Caribbean debut. Perched along a 300-foot bluff overlooking the sea, Las Casitas is a private sanctuary of 90 casitas. It enjoys its distinction as one of only two Five-Diamond properties in the Caribbean. In addition to the spa, its amenities include a pool, fine dining, golf, butler service and access to all the facilities of the Wyndham El Conquistador Resort Country Club next door.

Mexico also becomes a new destination for Grand Bay Hotels and Resorts with its 1,200-acre resort community on a hillside overlooking the magnificent bay and Pacific Ocean. Grand Bay Hotel Puerto de la Navidad has 191 guest casitas, a shopping village, championship golf, a tennis center, and protected natural areas that showcase the region's natural beauty.
According to Jerry Thoele, as 1999 unfolds, Grand Bay Hotels and Resorts will stay focused on its strategy of managing hotels in major American gateway cities such as New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston and Chicago. The Grand Bay Hotel in Chicago is, in fact, already under development in a joint venture with The John Buck Company of Chicago, its partner Morgan Stanley Real Estate Funds, and Wyndham International. The hotel will be part of the North Bridge Development, a $450 million mixed-use development that will span several prime city blocks, including North Michigan Avenue. Slated for a Spring 2000 opening,

The Grand Bay Chicago will offer a Golden Door CitySpa, the urban version of its spa brand; 310 spacious and luxurious guest rooms and suites; world-class dining in specialty restaurants; and, 8,000 square-feet of meeting space.

In the meantime, Grand Bay Hotels and Resorts continues to enhance its existing portfolio, maintaining their preeminence in their respective markets. For example, its flagship, The Boulders (Carefree, Arizona), has just completed a $2 million refurbishment of its guest casitas, renovation of its golf courses, and is designing a Golden Door Spa. The Peaks Resort Spa (Telluride, Colorado) has converted its existing award-winning spa into a Golden Door. In the past year, Carmel Valley Ranch (Carmel, California) has added 44 guest suites and additional meeting facilities, and the Grand Bay Hotel in Coconut Grove has just added a new Bice Restaurant, among other improvements.

Grand Bay Hotels and Resorts is a collection of exceptional hotels and resorts designed to reflect their natural surroundings as well as ensure a positive travel experience for each guest. Grand Bay Hotels and Resorts is owned by Dallas-based Patriot American Hospitality, Inc. and represents the luxury division of Patriot American's operating company, Wyndham International, Inc. Known as a paired-share real estate investment trust, the shares of Patriot American are paired (NYSE: PAH) and trade together with those of its operating company, Wyndham International.

The Grand Bay collection includes The Boulders in Carefree, Arizona; Carmel Valley Ranch in Carmel, California; The Peaks Resort Spa in Telluride, Colorado; The Lodge at Ventana Canyon in Tucson, Arizona; Grand Bay Hotel Coconut Grove in Florida; Grand Bay Hotel Isla de la Navidad near Manzanillo, Mexico; Las Casitas Village in Las Croabas, Puerto Rico; and the Golden Door in Escondido, California. Properties under development include Grand Bay Hotel Chicago (opening in 2000) and Grand Bay Resort Key Biscayne (opening in 2000).
