Dallas, Texas - January 26, 1999 -Event Safety & Security,
a twice-monthly newsletter dedicated to the safety and security of patrons
and the public at events and event venues, is set to debut on February
15, 1999. John Swinburn, president of Challenge Management, Inc.
of Dallas, Texas, will serve as editor and publisher of the newsletter.
The intended audience is very broad but its members share one important characteristic: they are professionals who have significant responsibilities for ensuring that safety & security planning and implementation are conducted properly. In making the announcement, Swinburn said, "The objective of Event Safety & Security is to serve as a vital information resource for promoters, venue managers, event organizers, law enforcement officials, risk managers, and others with a keen interest in and responsibility for event safety and security. We intend for the newsletter, and the companion web site that is under construction, to provide subscribers with a forum for the exchange of information and ideas among their professional peers. Professionals with responsibility for public safety cannot afford to take their responsibilities lightly. They must keep current with issues and activities that might impact their abilities to fulfill their roles; that helps protect the public, and it helps protect them from legal entanglements." An Advisory Board for the newsletter will serve to help guide its content and coverage. To date, five members have been named to the Event Safety & Security Advisory Board:
Additional members of the Advisory Board are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Swinburn says that Event Safety & Security will help its audience carry out their responsibilities to stay informed about crucial issues. "One unique feature of Event Safety & Security is that, while it will be published as a hard-copy periodical, it will integrate with a restricted-access web site. There, subscribers can get early access to each issue of the newsletter, along with special reports that are developed from time to time and, in addition, they can post and read subject-based threaded messages to and from other subscribers." "Events" in the context of the new periodical include all types of orchestrated activities designed to bring people together in one place for a common purpose, generally (but not always) for entertainment or to conduct business. Examples of "events" in this context are:
