Sebastian Escarrer, Vice Chairman of Sol Melia, 
Named European Personality of the Year
 
Singapore, 23 February 1998 - Mr. Sebastián Escarrer, Vice Chairman Sol Meliá Worldwide, was recently named European Personality of the Year by US-based Travel Agent magazine. Mr. Escarrer is responsible for directing the Group's international financial and management strategy for all 250 properties in 30 countries.

Mr. Escarrer's experience in multinational financial and management strategy spans 10 years, during which he has held top executive  positions with leading  international companies throughout Europe and North America including Coca-Cola Corporation, The First Boston Corporation, Hyatt International, and Mac-Gemini Group before joining Sol Meliá in 1993 as assistant to the President.

A key highlight in his illustrious career, is the appointment of Mr. Escarrer as Spanish tourism advisor to Leon Brittan, Vice-President of the European Commission for the world summit on the liberalisation of the service industry.

In 1997, he was nominated by The World Economic Forum, Davos, as one of the 100 GLT business leaders of the next century, along with Alexandro Benetton (Benetton), Jerry Yanes (Yahoo) and Wynton Marsalis (Lincoln Centre).

A Masters of Business graduate from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, Mr. Escarrer enjoys golf, skiing, horseback riding, watersports, Impressionist Art, and opera.
