Knights Inn Using Comic Book to
Promote Brand Awareness
Chain's Superhero Mascot Stars in Educational Comic Book Series
ProvidedFree to Travelers

PARSIPPANY, NJ, February 23, 1999 All travelers stopping by Knights Inn hotels can now receive a copy of the chain's new limited edition comic book, "The Adventures of Sir Knight."  The first of the four book-series planned for the year, the comic and activity book features the chain's new Superhero mascot, "Sir Knight," and has an overall theme of "Travel Fun Travel Safe," aimed at children and adults alike.

"I'm telling you, these books are fantastic," said Vinay Patel, vice president of marketing for Knights Franchise Systems, Inc. "They include fun and educational activities for kids, communicate our concern for travel safety for all ages, and have the ultimate in Superhero excitement."

The comic provides a range of activities that engage children with words and pictures and help sharpen their reading as well as their geography skills.  The books also provide children with important safety and travel messages.  No purchase is necessary to receive the free comic book, which will be promoted at the hotel's front desk.   Readers can also complete a form that entitles them to a free Knights Inn frisbee.

Subsequent issues will be released on a quarterly basis, with the next issue slated to appear in early April.  All books will contain a safety theme.

The contemporary 21st century knight is expected to generate brand awareness and deliver the Knights Inn value message of comfortable, budget lodging to consumers.  "The Adventures of Sir Knight" series is testimony to the chain's plan of becoming an innovative brand that has a fun, unique and effective way of communicating with its target markets.

"Through our new Superhero, we've brought this brand to life to make an impact on our potential guests," said Ramesh Gokal, Knights' president and CEO. "Plus, by incorporating fun and education, our comic books take on an exciting dimension that will further encourage families to relate to the Knights Inn name and culture."

Knights Franchise Systems, Inc., a subsidiary of Cendant Corporation (NYSE: CD), is a budget lodging chain of more than 225 franchised properties in the United States and Canada.
