Architect Kennteth Evangelista Selected to Renovate the Historic Oakland Hills Clubhouse in Birmingham, MI

BIRMINGHAM, Mich., Feb. 11, 1999 -  It's a perfect match -- Ken Evangelista, the premier country club architect, applying his skills to take Oakland Hills, one of the world's great golf clubs, into the next century. Both carry a pedigree and a style that complement and will bring the best out of the Club's great future, players, historic competitions, colorful personalities and its dedicated membership.

Consider: Evangelista Architects has been without competition for 50 years in the design of some of the areas most prestigious globally recognized clubs. Ken Evangelista's residential talent and work nationwide are the foundation of his business. His residential talent is sought by executives, professionals and top men in the automotive, communications, and manufacturing industries.

Oakland Hills Country Club, "The Grand Old Lady," was modeled after George Washington's Mt. Vernon estate. Her lush "Monster" fairways and stunning Clubhouse are loaded with history and also stand alone with a nationally-recognized golf heritage. She is the second largest wooden frame building, next to the Grand Hotel, in the state of Michigan.

Oakland Hills, "The Monster," has been the host club for the U.S. Open, two PGA Championships, two senior opens, and the Women's Amateur, not to mention many regional tournaments.

The Oakland Hills "Clubhouse 2,000" renovation is a major project.

"This will be the most comprehensive restoration in the club's eighty-two- year history. The entire interior of the Club will be restored and updated with many of the Club's signature rooms remaining the same. We are maintaining the main dining room, ballroom and stair hall to the club, said club manager, Rick Bayless.

"Evangelista was selected because of his strong traditional architectural experience, work on fine homes, restoration and construction experience, and his knowledge of the Club's structure. We are very sensitive to his hands-on involvement and knowledge of every element of the building. His eight year experience with the Club is the kind of interest and involvement our members and the structure demand."

Ken's upscale residential projects are driven by his strong design traditions and building construction excellence not only found in his clients' homes but in many of his total and partial country club renovation projects. Some of the most notable include: Forest Lake, Bloomfield Hills, Orchard Lake, and Birchwood Farms Golf and County Clubs.

While his residential work has taken him from Colorado to Connecticut, Ken's recognized style is personifying "the best of the way it used to be," which explains his continued resounding success in the architectural field. "I apprenticed and was exposed to architects and builders who were the best of their time ... who did it the old way. They taught me to concentrate on the details for quality, building artisan co-operation, correct wood species selection, perfecting interior construction like fine furniture. The old standby of developing and hiring workers that have extreme pride in their work and enjoy the challenges of first class job completion are the keys to our success," said Evangelista.

"His work is even reflected in the texture of our home," said his wife, Linda Evangelista. This hands-on architect is a member of the American Institute of Architects and Michigan Society of Architects.
