CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Feb. 18, 1999--The board of directors
of Divi Resorts announced today that Paula Smith has been appointed president
of Divi Resorts.
Reporting directly to the board, Smith will be responsible for the company's
day to day operation and long term strategic planning and development.
Smith joined Divi Resorts in 1998 as chief financial officer.
Prior to joining Divi, Smith spent the previous 14 years with the Eastern
Slope Inn Attitash Mountain Village Resorts in New Hampshire, as
their Vice President of Finance/Operations. Smith
has a BA in Business Finance and is a Masters Candidate in Business Management.
An active member of hospitality and timeshare industry associations, Smith
is the immediate past president of the New Hampshire Restaurant and Lodging
Association and served on the association's executive board for six years.
Smith has also served on the Governor's Task Force on Tourism in New Hampshire
and is past president of Business Professional Women (BPW) Chicago and
New Hampshire chapters.
Smith has served as a presenter, speaker and awards judge throughout
the years for the American Resort Development Association (ARDA).
Additionally, she volunteered mentoring services for an ARDA administered
program designed to facilitate the development of young industry professionals.
Divi's board and new President Paula Smith are committed to improving
the company's resort and travel products and overall profitability.
Divi operates eight resorts on five Caribbean islands: Aruba, Bonaire,
Barbados, Cayman Brac and St. Maarten. Divi has a ninth resort under
construction on St. Croix in the USVI. Divi has been a leader in
the Caribbean resort and vacation ownership industries for over two decades. |
