WORLDSPAN Reports Successful Year 2000 Trip Planning

ATLANTA, Feb. 5, 1999 -  WORLDSPAN today reported a smooth booking process for travel planned in the Year 2000. February 4 was the first date that air travel could be booked in WORLDSPAN on all carriers with a departure or return date after December 31, 1999. The smooth booking process is the culmination of years of planning and testing and a significant financial investment.

"Previous testing on our numerous systems indicated that we were Year 2000 Ready. Now that actual bookings have been completed in the production system, we have crossed the threshold of facilitating accurate travel planning for the Year 2000," said Sue Powers, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, WORLDSPAN. "Our planning for the Year 2000 was extensive and included testing with dozens of airlines, hotel, and car companies. And we're pleased to say that this effort has paid off with the WORLDSPAN system performing exactly as planned."

WORLDSPAN completed all necessary core system modifications in 1997. During 1998, WORLDSPAN Year 2000 efforts included the preparation of internal operations, testing with airline and associate suppliers, and the readying of external systems provided by WORLDSPAN to its customers. In 1999 WORLDSPAN will continue to monitor its Year 2000 readiness.

"We have now completed all planned subscriber activities for customers in the U.S. We will complete the project for our international customers by the end of the first quarter, 1999," added Powers. "In the meantime, these agencies will be able to complete bookings in the Year 2000 without any difficulty."

Neil Beck, Vice President, International, commented, "To ensure we provide support in every market where our customers operate, WORLDSPAN's international efforts include upgrading and preparing clientele in more than 50 countries."

WORLDSPAN offers a broad selection of reservations, ticketing, and office automation products in the U.S. and international travel industry, including Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Asia Pacific. The company is owned by affiliates of Delta Air Lines, Northwest Airlines and Trans World Airlines. Y2K Bookings a Major Success After First Month, According to Amadeus

MADRID, Spain, Feb. 5, 1999 - Amadeus, one of the world's leading global distribution systems (GDS) for the travel industry, announced that its first month of issuing Y2K bookings was a success, having processed over 500,000 airline bookings for the Year 2000 on nearly 300 different carriers from around the world.

Since issuing its first Y2K ticket on January 5, 1999, Amadeus has provided its travel agency and airline reservation office customers with the ability to access Year 2000 schedules and to complete Year 2000 bookings for various airlines, hotel chains and car rental companies. During the next weeks, additional travel service providers will gradually offer the possibility to book for the new millennium, as soon as their Year 2000 inventory data becomes available.

"The Amadeus system allows bookings to be issued 361 days prior to the new millennium. As a result, we are extremely proud to announce the completion of our first full month of processing Year 2000 bookings, rewarding the efforts we are dedicating to make our system ready for Y2K," said David V. Jones, Amadeus' Senior Vice President, Marketing. "Another point worth noting is that Y2K bookings have already been made on many different travel service providers, which shows that their systems are processing Year 2000 data as well. "

Although Amadeus has already completed a major step of its overall Year 2000 project, it will continue to prepare for the Year 2000 transition throughout 1999. Amadeus' efforts include additional testing with travel service providers and agency customers, along with general contingency planning for this critical period.

Amadeus is the fastest growing GDS and is used by more travel agencies than any other system, with over 44,000 travel agency locations connected to its data processing centre as well as the sales offices of over 100 airlines worldwide. Agents can make airline, car and hotel bookings with more than 500 airlines, 60 car rental companies and 50,000 hotel properties, as well as a wide range of other travel services.
