San Diego Paradise Point Resort Provides Recognition Program for Exceptional Meeting Planners

San Diego, CA - February 15, 1999-- When you think about what goes into planning a large meeting or convention, you suddenly realize that there is more to it than phoning a hotel and booking some rooms. The management staff of the San Diego Paradise Point Resort relies on its staff of experienced and well-trained employees to provide a productive and rewarding meeting for their clients. What often goes unnoticed is the ability of an exceptional meeting planner to convey not only the details of their particular organization, but their company culture and anticipated return on investment from the meeting. Professional meeting engagers and planners are increasingly responsible for extensive budgets, corporate resources and in some instances, a financial return.  In an effort to bridge the gap of the under-recognized meeting professional, The Meeting Planner of Excellence Award was conceived by Director of Marketing, John Davies, and was created to distinguish the detailed, professional conference planners that have formed a partnership with the resort management to develop a long-term mutually beneficial relationship for both provider and receiver.

The San Diego Paradise Point Resort has recognized the partnership they have with these organizations, and the incredible impact that an experienced, professional meeting planner brings to the table. For the past six years, Paradise Point has honored twelve meeting professionals with the MPE award. These individuals have displayed exceptional meeting planning skills during their conference at the resort. The special designation is the result of a selection process by the resorts sales and convention service staff. The resorts staff evaluates the strength of the planner throughout the entire process of the convention plan, beginning with the meeting planners ability to anticipate the organizations ultimate meeting objective and what expectations must be met for the success of that meeting.

A program of this type is unique for a hotel to initiate, and the San Diego Paradise Point Resort goes to great lengths to extend their appreciation. Once a recipient is determined, the resort hosts a gala in their honor. The evening is complete with an elaborate video production of thanks from the entire resort staff.  A 1998 award recipient, Kathy Bowman, Conference Specialist with the League of California Cities, expressed, It truly is an honor to receive this award from the San Diego Paradise Point Resort. In my 20-year career, I have never encountered a hotel with such a rewarding program.

The MPE award has blossomed since its original conception, realizing the value of the recipients knowledge, the management of Paradise Point Resort wanted to expand on the idea by using it as a format to critique themselves. With recipients such as Genevieve Sutton, Senior Meeting Planner for Rosenbluth International Intel Meeting Service and Walter R. Thayer II, Events Manager for NIKE, Inc., focus groups were formed. Facilitated by nationally recognized industry speaker and trainer, Dr. Tom McDonald, hard hitting industry questions were raised and addressed by the planners and the resorts key management staff.

Following the exchange, Thayer commented, It is refreshing for hotels to seek insight on what key issues planners face, and focusing on what will be important in the future and then planning for it.

For Genevieve Sutton of Rosenbluth, it was all about streamlining, Paradise Point now understands the constraints of our contracting process, and as a result of this dialogue, we should be able to enhance future negotiations.

Celebrating 37 years of excellence, San Diego Paradise Point Resort is located on a tropical island paradise in the heart of San Diego at 1404 West Vacation Road, San Diego, CA. Website: www.paradisepoint.com
