Atlanta's Landmark Convention Hotel To Become Sheraton Atlanta Hotel

ATLANTA - Oct. 5, 1998--The Spirit of Atlanta Hotel, formerly the Radisson Hotel Atlanta, will become a Sheraton Hotel, according to Amerimar Enterprises, Inc. Following the first phase of a $24 million renovation of the property projected to be completed in January 1999, the hotel will be called the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel.

Sheraton Hotels Resorts, a subsidiary of Starwood Hotels Resorts Worldwide, Inc., currently has seven hotels in the Metro Atlanta area which operate under its name. However, Sheraton has not had a presence in downtown Atlanta until now.

An Atlanta landmark for over 30 years, the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel will be an asset to the Sheraton brand with its prime location in the downtown Atlanta convention hotel community. With 765 rooms in two towers, the property is large enough to accommodate meeting groups of various sizes, while providing personalized service and quality business amenities in a "boutique" setting.

"This hotel is an Atlanta landmark which has always been an integral part of the city," said Mayor Bill Campbell. "Bringing the Sheraton name to Downtown will fill an important niche in the city's hotel and convention industry."

As part of its transformation into a Sheraton, the hotel will soon launch a $24 million renovation that will restore the property to its position as a premier meeting hotel in downtown Atlanta. The refurbishment will feature a whimsical design, which will put a contemporary spin on the property. Projected to be completed by spring 1999, the enhancements will include major changes to the lobby, meeting rooms, guest rooms, restaurants, and the exterior. Amenities will be added to meet the personal needs of business, leisure and convention guests.

"This hotel is good news for Atlanta's skyline," said Sam Zamarripa, senior vice president for community development, Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. "The eclectic styling of the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel will certainly add flavor to our developing Downtown."

"There are exciting changes going on at the soon to be Sheraton Atlanta Hotel," said Michael J. Deighton, general manager of the hotel. "The renovation will revitalize the look of the hotel and enhanced levels of guest service from our associates will energize the feel of the hotel. The addition of the Sheraton name will set it apart as a superior property in downtown Atlanta."

Amerimar Enterprises, Inc., a Philadelphia-based firm specializing in the redevelopment and repositioning of urban commercial properties, and Angelo Gordon Co., a New York investment firm, purchased the Radisson Hotel Atlanta in May.
