Alaska's First Hawthorn Suite Ltd. 
Breaks Ground in Anchorage
 
ATLANTA (Oct. 13, 1998) -  Anchorage-based Parkstrip Rose Garden Hotel, L.L.C. has broken ground on Alaska's first Hawthorn Suites LTD.  Located at 900 L. Street in Anchorage, Hawthorn Suites LTD. is an all suites hotel which features business and extended-stay accommodations.  A mid-1999 opening is planned. 

Hawthorn Suites LTD. is a brand extension of Hawthorn Suites, the lodging concept especially targeted to business travelers and families relocating to a new city, attending training classes or on other extended-stay travel.  Hawthorn Suites LTD., ideal for shorter trips and extended stay, offers complimentary daily hot breakfast buffet and Wednesday evening social hour, plus an array of guest amenities and business services, all at excellent value.  The Hawthorn brand is franchised by Atlanta-based US Franchise Systems (Nasdaq: USFS). 

Hawthorn Suites LTD. in Anchorage will be a three-story, 112 suite property.  Each suite will feature a full kitchen, coffee-maker, two-line telephone with modem port, and cable television with video cassette player and HBO.  In addition to complimentary breakfast and social hour, the hotel will offer a pool, hot tub, exercise room and Benihana restaurant.  The property is located five miles from Anchorage International Airport, one mile from Alaska Railroad and within walking 
distance to Nordstrom, Anchorage Fifth Ave. Mall and The Museum of Natural History and Arts.

US Franchise Systems, Inc. was formed in August 1995 by Mike Leven, a 38-year veteran of the lodging industry, and Neal 
Aronson, former principal of a New York investment firm, when the company purchased the franchise system rights to Microtel Inn & Suites. USFS acquired the franchise rights to Hawthorn Suites in 1996, and full ownership in March 1998.  The company also recently acquired the franchise rights to Best Inns & Suites.
