New  $60 Million Westin Hotel to be Built
in Downtown San Jose, CA

SEATTLE, Nov. 5, 1998 -  Westin Hotels Resorts and Cristina Hall Properties announce the development of The Westin San Jose, a 350-room hotel located in downtown San Jose, Calif. across the street from the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. The $60 million project represents a joint venture between Cristina Hall LLC and Vine Street Properties, the majority owners, and Westin's parent company, Starwood Hotels Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: HOT), which will hold a small equity position in the project. Westin will manage the project under a 20-year management agreement.

Construction on the 14-story business and convention hotel is slated to begin in the spring of 1999 and is scheduled for completion January 2001. Preliminary plans call for over 18,000 square feet of meeting space, a full-service fitness center featuring outdoor pool, weight room and exercise area, a complete business center, three-meal-a-day restaurant, gift shop and a parking garage.

The Westin San Jose will be the only hotel located on the Guadalupe River and the only hotel with direct access to the Guadalupe River Park and Gardens, a 150-acre park featuring walking, jogging and bicycle paths, picnic sites, the San Jose Arena (home to the San Jose Sharks hockey team) and a children's carousel. Other area attractions within walking distance include the San Jose Performing Arts Center, The Museum of Art, San Jose State University, the

San Jose Repertory Theater and the new Tech Museum of Innovation. The hotel will be ten minutes by car from the San Jose Airport and will provide easy access to Highways 87 and 280. The L-shaped hotel designed by Callison Architecture, Inc. of Seattle, was developed with an urban feel. Its design takes advantage of the adjacent Guadelupe River, with most of the dining and function space opening onto the River Walk. Additionally, the hotel's lobby faces Almaden Boulevard, and opens out to a tree-covered pedestrian plaza connecting the River Park to one of San Jose's primary intersections.

Westin currently operates ten properties in California including The Westin Long Beach, Westin Century Plaza Hotel Tower in Los Angeles, The Westin Bonaventure Hotel and Suites in Los Angeles, The Westin Los Angeles Airport, The Westin South Coast Plaza in Orange County, The Westin Mission Hills Resort in Rancho Mirage near Palm Springs, The Westin Horton Plaza in San Diego, The Westin San Francisco Airport, The Westin St. Francis in San Francisco and The Westin Santa Clara.
