Kenneth Smotherman, Owner of Old Main Lodge in Waco, TX Elected to Best Western 
International Board of Directors
 
PHOENIX, December 9, 1998 - Kenneth Lee Smotherman, CHA, veteran Best Western member and hotel operator, was elected to the board of directors of Best Western International by proclamation at the brand's recent international convention in Las Vegas. Smotherman will represent the interests of hoteliers located in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska.

"We are very pleased to have someone with Smotherman's extensive background and professional reputation representing District V for Best Western International," says Jerry Manion, chief operating officer for Best Western International. "We are looking forward to his contributions and leadership in representing District V as Best Western continues to meet the challenges of the competitive marketplace."

Smotherman is the owner and operator of the Best Western Old Main Lodge in Waco, Texas. During the past 22 years Smotherman owned three Best Western hotels and served as a Best Western Governor for both Districts IV and V.
 

The Best Western Old Main Lodge, Waco, TX  is beautifully decorated with antiques and artwork in the lobby. The Old Main Lodge is close  to Baylor University, Texas Ranger Museum, Texas Sports Hall of Fame, Strecker Museum, Texas State Little League and Ferrell Center. 

Smotherman's hospitality involvement includes service on the Best Western Brand Identity, Membership Development and Quality Assurance Advisory Committees. He also held a number of offices with hospitality-related organizations throughout Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. Smotherman is active on the Texas Co-op Committee, which is a group of Best Western hoteliers who pool their resources to promote the brand in their area.

Best Western International is governed by a seven-member board. Each member of the board must be a Best Western hotelier and is elected for a three-year term by other Best Western members in the chain's seven North American geographic districts.
