PHOENIX, Sept. 25, 19998- One of the hospitality industry's
leading financial officers has joined BestWestern International Inc. as
vice president and chief financial officer. Anupam Narayan, former senior
vice president and treasurer of the Doubletree Corporation, will assume
his new duties at Best Western's international headquarters in Phoenix
immediately, according to Chief Operating Officer Jerry R. Manion.

and outstanding professional reputation overseeing the financial and strategic
planning operations for Best Western," says Manion. "We are looking forward
to his direction, his contributions and leadership in these critical areas
as Best Western continues to meet the challenges of the competitive global
marketplace."
An 18-year industry veteran, prior to accepting his new position Narayan
served as senior vice president of Doubletree; vice president and treasurer
of Red Lion Hotels, Inc.; and as manager of corporate financial planning
and analysis for the Promus Corporation (NYSE: PRH).
Active in industry affairs, he is a frequent speaker at financial and
hospitality conferences and planning forums. He holds an undergraduate
degree in engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur,
India; and an MBA degree in finance from the University of Florida. He
and his wife Judy live in Paradise Valley, Ariz. Narayan succeeds former
chief financial officer Gary Nielsen, who left Best Western to pursue other
opportunities.
