Radisson Grand Aruba Resort, Spa & Casino
Set to Re-Open in Late December 1998
Following a $35 Million Enhancement Project

July, 1998 - Construction began on the RADISSON GRAND ARUBA Resort, Spa & Casino shortly after the last guest checked out on March 1, 1998.  The nine-month, $35-million renovation program, directed by Ai Group, Architects of Atlanta, Georgia, will transform the resort into the finest resort on Aruba, touching all areas of the property and including the creation of a full-service spa, the only such facility on Aruba.  From the new lobby, guest rooms, restaurants, casino, conference facility and retail space, to the newly landscaped and configured outdoor public space and recreation areas, the reopening of the Radisson in late December 1998 will significantly enhance the quality of the guest experience on the island.  The renovation will result in a flagship property for Radisson and a premier resort in the Caribbean.

Were proud to return this historic property to its former magnificence, remarked General Manager Alex Kloszewski.  It is sure to delight not only our loyal customers who have loved and enjoyed the resort for years, but also a new base of upscale travelers.

New Lobby and Guest Rooms

A new lobby configuration will bring a greater sense of arrival by allowing a broader view of the lush, 14-acre property when approaching the entryway.  The interior design will include dramatic roof openings and skylights that will enhance the open-air setting.  Comfortable furnishings in rich natural colors and mahogany finishes will begin in the lobby and continue throughout the resort, reflecting an elegant Caribbean ambience.  A new lobby shopping area will include a jewelry store, cosmetics boutique and a sundry shop featuring designer names for the most discriminating tastes.

The 358 new guest rooms, including 32 suites and a new Concierge Level, will be redesigned and will feature such luxury appointments as marble foyers and custom-designed mahogany wardrobes.  Mahogany four-poster beds, original artwork and plantation-style shuttered doors leading to the balconies, will complement the luxurious yet tropical flavor.  Balconies will be redesigned to provide unobstructed views of the grounds and sea.  Bathrooms will be finished with marble and will include wicker hampers, thick terry towels, and redesigned lighting fixtures.

Spa

The new 8,500-square-foot spa will be the first and only full-service facility on the island and will provide a soothing, stress-free environment devoted to pampering and rejuvenation.  An array of spa treatments and services, including massages, facials, masks, body wraps and baths, will be available.  A comprehensive fitness center will feature the newest cardiovascular and weight training equipment.  Also included will be a sauna, steamroom and separate locker rooms.

Recreation & Outdoor Public Spaces

Tropical landscaping, manicured gardens and a series of lagoons will envelop the resort.  Of particular note are landscaping enhancements to the expansive beachfront pool area and 1,500-foot white sand beach, the best stretch of beach on the island.  Several new whirlpools will be strategically located and chaise lounges and towels will continue to be provided beachfront and at the resorts two pools.  The redesign will provide a variety of settings including areas of activity and quieter, secluded sections, complete with hammocks for the quintessential Caribbean experience.  An enhanced Daily Activity Program will appeal to all ages, with a new Childrens Activity Center for the younger set.

Tennis facilities will feature four new, lighted courts.  A USTPA tennis professional will be available for private or group instruction as well as tournaments.

Guests of the Radisson will now receive preferred access to Tierra del Sol, the only championship golf course on the island.  Designed by Robert Trent Jones II, it is set along the magnificently rugged coastline.  This challenging par 71 has the distinction of being one of the few desert courses with an ocean view.

Food & Beverage and Entertainment

The award-winning cuisine found at the resort will continue to delight guests, now in four newly created restaurants and lounges.  From elegant fine dining to relaxed outdoor settings, the resort will provide a variety of delectable menu items to satisfy guests during extended stays.  Twenty - four hour in-room dining will also be available.

A newly relocated and enlarged 12,000-square-foot casino will provide a full range of gambling to include Las Vegas style blackjack, roulette, slots, craps and machines.

Meeting & Conference Facilities

The redesigned 15,000-square-foot conference center will include a new 8,100-square-foot ballroom, with seating for up to 900, as well as five new breakout rooms and a business center.  The style of the rooms will reflect the sophisticated tropical ambience of the other areas of the resort.  An on-site specialist will be available to expertly coordinate all details of group events.
