MEMPHIS, Tenn - July 8, 1998--Club Hotels by Doubletree today announced it has begun offering its guests an unconditional 100% Satisfaction Guarantee. The chain is the first Doubletree hotel brand to implement the 100% Satisfaction Guarantee since the company merged with Promus Hotel Corporation (NYSE:PRH) in December 1997. Promus, through its Embassy Suites, Hampton Inn, Hampton Inn Suites, and Homewood Suites brands, is the only national hotel company to offer guests a full refund of their hotel room cost if they are not fully satisfied with their stay.

With 40 hotels open or under development, Club Hotels by Doubletree is one of the nation's fastest growing, mid-market with food and beverage service hotel brands. The chain revolutionized business travel by partnering with three nationally recognized business service providers.

"Today's business travelers want a hassle-free experience, and the Guarantee gives them a greater degree of comfort," said Warren Fields, vice president, Club Hotels by Doubletree. "Our guests have the assurance their stay will be outstanding or they won't pay, period."

"In a test at three of our properties, less than one-fifth of 1 percent of our guests invoked the Guarantee," Fields said. "Guests don't always complain if something isn't right; they vote with their feet and go to the competition," he added. "Guaranteeing unconditional guest satisfaction creates strong brand loyalty and a customer for life." Doubletree Hotels, a first-class, full-service hotel chain with 106 properties, and Doubletree Guest Suites, a first-class, full-service, all-suite chain with 42 properties, currently are testing the 100% Guarantee and expect to roll it out within the next six to nine months.

"I've been involved with the Guarantee for more than four years and have found it not only to be a great benefit to guests but also to employees," said George R. Haas, general manager of the Club Hotels by Doubletree, Austin-University Area, Texas, one of the pilot test hotels for the 100% Satisfaction Guarantee. "We conduct a half-day training course on the Guarantee with every employee and provide constant reinforcement through monthly newsletters and a video learning series. Employees like knowing they have the power in their hands to fix any problem."

"We re-invented the business lodging category by introducing the Club Hotels by Doubletree concept in 1996," Fields said. The innovative hotel brand was created after extensive customer research found mid-market hotels did not allow business travelers to be productive while on the road.

The highlight of each Club Hotel by Doubletree is the Business Club Room, a 4,000 square foot room located just off the lobby with individual work stations, called Personal Harbors(R) designed by Steelcase, Inc., a light fare Au Bon Pain Bakery Cafe, and a CopyMax(R) self-service business center by OfficeMax complete with credit card-operated photo copiers, laser printers and fax machines. Additionally, the Business Club Room offers conference rooms, several den settings with comfortable seating and large screen TVs, phones with modem ports, and a FedEx shipping center.
