FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., April 28, 1998 – In a move which significantly enhances its position as an aggressive operator and developer of Choice hotel products throughout South America, Choice Atlantica Hotels has acquired the master franchise rights to develop and franchise the Clarion, Quality Inn, Quality Suites, Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites and Sleep Inn hotel brands in the countries of Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia. Choice Atlantica Hotels, along with its partner Choice Hotels International, already holds the master franchise agreement to develop Choice hotel products in Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.
Choice Atlantica Hotels also announced plans to develop three comprehensive reservations offices to provide sales support to hotels in the eight countries. The first of the centers will be completed this summer in Santiago. An office in Sao Paulo is scheduled for completion in October and a Buenos Aires office will be finished during the first quarter of 1999.
Under the agreement, Choice Atlantica Hotels is now the franchisor for existing properties in Santiago, Chile and Lima, Peru. In Santiago, the agreement includes the 65-room Clarion Hotel Principado de Asturias; the 25-room Quality Bonaparte Hotel, which is adding 45 rooms early next year; and the 117-room Quality El Conquistador. Additionally, a Sleep Inn – the first in South America – is scheduled for completion in October in Miraflores, an affluent suburb of Lima, Peru. The hotels are located near business centers and shopping attractions. All hotels are independently owned and managed.
It is anticipated that Choice Atlantica Hotels will provide franchising and management services to 25 hotels in Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia in the next five years. The company is already experiencing solid growth in Brazil and Argentina with four hotels under construction and plans for 103 hotels over the next five years.
“Soon regional and international business travelers throughout the Southern Cone of South America will have a variety of high-quality, dependable lodging options with the introduction of Choice hotels in these core countries, and they will be able to conveniently book rooms without being encumbered by borders or communication barriers,” said Paul J. Sistare, CHA, president and CEO of Choice Atlantica Hotels. “The entire region, which is comprised of 265 million people, is poised for unprecedented growth, and we believe that there will be phenomenal demand for the mid-scale and limited-service hospitality products that we offer.”
