Last year The South Dakota Innkeepers Association conducted a survey concerning our future affiliation with the American Hotel & Motel Association. At the completion of that survey the board voted not to change our policies and make it mandatory that any property over 50 units in size (previously 35 units) that wanted to join the South Dakota Innkeepers Association, would also be required to pay dues to the American Hotel & Motel Association. Because of this vote the South Dakota Innkeepers Association was expelled from the AH&MA Federation.

At the board meeting in January a representative from AH&MA appeared before the board and asked that the board reconsider its vote and enforce the membership policies of AH&MA. If this was turned down then AH&MA would set up another association in South Dakota that would be affiliated with AH&MA. As the written proposal from AH&MA was not received from AH&MA in advance of the meeting, giving the board members a chance to ponder the proposal, any action was deferred until the March 15th board meeting.

If you have any feelings either way on this proposal be sure to contact this office or a member of the board of directors before the March meeting. A vote on this issue will be taken at that meeting. The board meetings are open to the membership and any member is welcome to attend the meeting. The meeting will be at the Ramkota Inn, in Sioux Falls at 9:00 AM on March 15, 1998. This is also the opening day for the Midwest Purveyors Trade Show.
