SAN DIEGO, CA--On February 18, 1998, the San Diego Princess Resort was announced as the recipient of the Employer of the Year Award for its leadership involvement in Project Gold, presented by the San Diego Department of Rehabilitation.
Project Gold, a program which the resort has participated in since 1995, enables physically challenged students to acquire work place skills from the resort, while attending high school. Through an internship program, the students begin working at the Princess Resort during their senior year, two to three days per week. By the time the students have graduated from high school, they have already learned valuable skills sought by employers. All but one student has been successfully employed by the Princess after graduation.
Project Gold not only enriches the students' lives, but also the lives of Princess employees who find it to be a rewarding and educational experience working with physically challenged students. "Dedication, keeping commitments, and making a difference are words which describe the staff of the San Diego Princess Resort," notes Kathy Thompson of the Student Apprenticeship Staff at the San Diego City Schools.
