PETALUMA, Calif.--Feb. 2, 1998--Two of the country's hottest culinary trends -- olive oils and organics -- come together with the release of two new organic olive oils from Spectrum Naturals, America's leading natural food producer of culinary and nutritional oils.
The Petaluma, Calif.-based company's new organic olive
oils are Organic Extra Virgin Tuscan Style Olive Oil and Organic Extra
Virgin
California Olive Oil. Each comes in a rectangular,
16-ounce bottle with a suggested retail price of $13.99. The new organic
olive oils
are now available at natural food and fine grocery stores.
"More and more Americans want organic foods for reasons
of both health and the environment," said Lynn MacDonald, director of
marketing for Spectrum Naturals. "Organic olive oils
are a natural. Melding organics, where people are more assured of what
they are
ingesting, with the great taste of the finest extra virgin
olive oils delivers the best of both worlds."
The Organic Extra Virgin Tuscan Style Olive Oil is a first-press
blend of olives imported from Italy, creating a full-bodied oil with a
slight hint of pepper. The Organic Extra Virgin California
Olive Oil, made from a first pressing of California olives, has a bold,
fruity
flavor.
"Great cooks keep several different olive oils in their kitchen," MacDonald said. "They know each oil has its own distinct flavor and bouquet, and each enhances food in unique ways." Spectrum Naturals is the largest producer of expeller-pressed oils in the United States, and both the Organic Extra Virgin Tuscan Style Olive Oil and the Organic Extra Virgin California Olive Oil are expeller-pressed. Unlike the more common method of chemical extraction -- which mass-market vegetable oil producers use -- mechanical expeller-pressing does not use toxic solvents to extract oil.
The new organic olive oils extend the Spectrum Naturals
line of organic culinary oils, which includes Organic Extra Virgin Olive
Oil,
made from the prized Arbequina olives of Spain; Organic
Canola Oil; Organic Safflower Oil; Organic Soy Oil and Organic Toasted
Sesame Oil.
All of Spectrum Naturals' organic oils are organically
grown and processed in accordance with the California Foods Act of 1990,
and all
are third-party certified organic. Americans' increasing
interest in organics is being felt at grocery store cash registers: about
$3.5
billion dollars was spent on organic food products in
the United States in 1997 -- a figure projected to jump to $10 billion
by 2002.
Founded in 1986, Petaluma, Calif.-based Spectrum Naturals
is a leading producer of natural (produced without chemicals, solvents
or
preservatives) and organic vegetable oils and condiments
in North America and the Pacific Rim. The company is dedicated to bringing
nutrition and quality to the vegetable oil category and
is recognized as the reliable source for pure, fresh and healthful products.
Spectrum Naturals' products are found in natural food
stores and fine grocery stores throughout the United States and Pacific
Rim countries.
