New Ownership Appoints General Manager
and Director of Marketing for the McAllen Airport Hilton Inn
 

McALLEN, Texas, January 15, 1998 - - - F. David Michel, CHA and Sergio M. Cárdenas, CHSP were appointed as General Manager and Director of Marketing, respectively, for the McAllen Airport Hilton Inn. As of today, the property is owned and operated by McAllen Plaza, Inc. under a license agreement with Hilton Hotels Corporation.

As General Manager, Michel will be responsible for planning and executing the upcoming renovation of the 149-room hotel as well as all phases of the hotel�s operation and personnel. Michel, whose hotel career spans nearly 23 years, most recently served as Managing Director for the Sheraton Fiesta Beach Resort and the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort, in South Padre Island, Texas.  Michel received his certification as a hotel administrator (CHA) from the American Hotel & Motel Association Educational Institute and has completed business courses at Cornell University and Holiday Hospitality.

Director of Marketing Sergio M. Cárdenas, CHSP, who was promoted from Director of Sales for the Holiday Inns in McAllen, will be responsible for the hotel�s sales and marketing initiatives with dual responsibilities for the Sheraton Four Points in Brownsville, the Hilton�s sister property. Cárdenas has a wealth of experience in hotel sales and marketing including stints as Director of Sales for Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Promus Hotel Corporation and Hospitality Franchise Systems. Cárdenas received his certification as a hotel sales professional (CHSP) from the American Hotel & Motel Association Educational Institute and a degree in business from Davenport Business College in Grand Rapids, MI.

The 149-room McAllen Airport Hilton Inn will be refurbished later this year. The 4 Stars/4 Diamonds hotel will be expanding and improving its already upscale business services. Improvements will include; fully equipped health club, in-room voice mail, data-port telephones and a business service center with 24hr faxing and photocopy services.

McAllen Plaza, Inc. is a hotel owner/operator and developer that owns the Sheraton Four Points in Brownsville and plans to develop two additional hotels in South Texas over the next two years.
