 Best Western International Awarded Gold
Without Going to Nagano

Phoenix, Ariz., Feb.19, 1998---Best Western International, Inc., may not be competing in the winter Olympics, but that does not stop the world's largest lodging brand from getting the gold. The fourth annual Official Hotel Guide (OHG) Reader's Choice Survey bestows a number of gold, silver and bronze awards in a variety of categories. Best Western International placed first as the "Best Tourist Class Hotel Chain in Europe," "Best Tourist Class Hotel Chain in Latin America" and "Best Programs for Seniors." The popular brand received second as the "Best First Class Hotel Chain in Europe." Bronze was bestowed upon Best Western International as the 'Best Tourist Class Hotel in the Caribbean."

For the past four years, OHG has surveyed its 18,000 subscribers which the organization describes as "travel agents who book a higher-than-average number of hotel rooms," to reveal their personal favorites in hotels throughout the world.

"Our readers are considered the hotel experts in the travel industry," says William D. Scott II, publisher of Official Hotel Guide. "You won't find any more qualified group to rate the industry."

Wayne Wielgus, Best Western International's vice president of Worldwide Marketing and Sales agrees with the findings. "Throughout the world, Best Western consistently provides quality accommodations at an affordable price. I am pleased that travel agents and other industry professionals recognize our brand's performance and continue to book a large volume of rooms with us," he says.

Best Western International, Inc., is a membership-driven organization that has supported hoteliers with a variety of services to ensure competitive pricing, quality accommodations and consistent dedication to guest satisfaction for 51 years. Best Western International is the world's largest lodging brand with nearly 3,800 hotels in 77 countries and territories throughout North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the South Pacific.
