About the Conference

The aim of the conference is to provide the international tourism and hotel industry community with the latest information on the industry development and marketing opportunities in Indo-China and Southeast Asia. The region, inclusive of Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Brunei, Singapore, and Indonesia, has been noted in recent years for the most significant growth in international tourist arrivals. The Conference program will include keynote speeches by important government and tourism organization representatives, regional tourism industry leaders, and prominent international experts on tourism development and marketing as well as competitively selected paper presentations by researchers.

Conference Venue & Travel Arrangement

Entire conference program will be conducted on the campus of the Prince of Songkla University in Phuket, which provides a state-of-the-art meeting facility with a full-service hotel. A special conference room rate of US$45 net (including breakfast) will be offered at the on-campus hotel. Delegates who wish to stay off campus will be offered a special conference rate of US$70 (inclusive of breakfast ) and may opt to stay at either at Club Andaman Resort Hotel or Holiday Inn Phuket Resort Hotel, upscale resort hotels in the Patong Beach area of Phuket or at a upscale all-inclusive resort property Peal Village of Phuket.

Thai Airways International is the official airline of the conference and will offer a special conference discount airfares at the net travel agent rate.

STUDY TOURS & SPOUSE PROGRAMS

Concurrently with the conference schedule, several spouse programs will be offered including a Thai cooking class and a cruise tour to Pi-Pi Island off the coast of Phuket. An optional study tour of tourism development sites in Phuket will be offered before and after the conference.

PRE AND POST-CONFERENCE VISIT TO BANGKOK

In Bangkok special pre- and conference room rates will be arranged for those delegates who wish to extend their visit in Bangkok before and after the conference. Several pre- and post-conference tours will be offered on June 3, 1998 and June 7, 1998 by the Conference Sponsor Siam University�s Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management in Bangkok. SPECIAL ROOM RATES IN BANGKOK.

For those delegates who wish to take a pre- and post-conference tour and visit the capital city of Bangkok, The Regent of Bangkok, The Shanri-La Hotel Bangkok, and the Palazzo Hotel will honor the special room rates for June 1-4, 1998 and June 6-9, 1998. CONFERENCE REGISTRATION:

Registration fees per person are:

Conference registration fee includes participation in all conference sessions, participation in all scheduled meal functions and refreshment breaks, opening reception, and a copy of conference proceedings (to be available at the conference).

Spouses can register at US$225 before February 1, 1998 and US$275 after February 1, 1998. Spouse registration includes all conference programs less a copy of conference proceedings plus scheduled spouse programs including two tours and a Thai cooking class.

CALL FOR PAPERS

It is the intent of the conference to focus on a broad range of topics that are related to tourism and hotel industry development and marketing in Indo-China and Southeast Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Brunei, Singapore, and Indonesia).

Presentation proposals by both academics and industry practitioners are welcome in any of the following two categories.

Commitments from participants of the special session should be obtained prior to proposal submission.

Submission Guidelines: Three copies of an abstract or detailed outline of proposed paper or panel presentation/workshop should be submitted for the final selection process. The proposal should not exceed three type-written, double spaced pages. Submit abstracts/outline to the Conference Chair. Deadline for submission of abstracts/outline is January 20, 1998. Authors of accepted abstracts/outline will be asked to submit a completed paper or a completed outline of their presentation no later than March 31, 1998.

PROCEEDINGS AND EDITED BOOK

Final copies of papers or detailed outline will be professionally published as an edited volume of conference proceedings and distributed at the conference. In addition to the Conference Proceedings, selected papers will be included in an edited book to be published by The Haworth Hospitality Press (New York) at the completion of the conference. Conference Registration: All presenters are requested to register for the conference with fees before submission of the final completed papers.
