Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Announces Management Appointments

Honolulu, Hawaii USA , July,31, 1997 -- Outrigger Hotels & Resorts is pleased to announce that the following management hires and promotions have taken place within the last few months.

Wayne Sterling, General Manager

Wayne Sterling has been appointed to the position of general manager for Outrigger Hotels & Resorts. He will assume a key role at one of the company's hotels currently under construction in the Pacific. Until then, Sterling is based in Hawaii and is assisting in the strategic planning and preopening for Outrigger's projects in French Polynesia and the Cook Islands. Prior to joining Outrigger, Sterling was a hotel manager with Aston Hotels & Resorts at the Coral Reef and Pacific Monarch hotels. He has also held upper management positions at the Kaluakoi Hotel & Golf Club on Molokai; the Waiohai Resort and Poipu Beach Hotel, the Coco Palms Resort, the Hanalei Bay Resort and Kiahuna Plantations Resort on Kauai; and at the Kona Surf in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. In addition to his many years in Hawaii's hospitality industry, Sterling brings to Outrigger the added experience of having worked in the Pacific as regional vice president and general manager at the Rainmaker Hotel in American Samoa and director of food & beverage at the Hotel Taharaa in Papeete, Tahiti. According to Barry Wallace, Outrigger's senior vice president of operations, "With Wayne's 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry in Hawaii, Tahiti and American Samoa, he is a perfect fit for any one of our soon-to-open properties in Tahiti and Rarotonga." Sterling, who is Hawaii born, attended the University of Hawaii and graduated with a bachelors degree from the School of Travel Industry Management.

Victoria L. Valenciano, Resort Manager

Victoria L. Valenciano has joined the Kiahuna Plantation Resort on the island of Kauai as resort manager. In her position, she assists the property's general manager with the daily operation of this beachfront resort condominium. Valenciano comes to Outrigger Hotels with over 10 years of experience in the hospitality industry. She is very familiar with the Poipu area on Kauai having worked at the Stouffer Waiohai & Poipu Beach Resort and the Embassy Vacation Resort-Poipu Point. Her previous positions have included front office manager, reservations manager, assistant manager and rooms division manager. Born and raised on Kauai, Valenciano attended college in Honolulu and holds an associates degree in Hotel Management from Kapiolani Community College.

Glennjohn "Pasa" Pasadaba, Sales Manager

The Royal Waikoloan hotel on the Big Island of Hawaii has hired Glennjohn "Pasa" Pasadaba as Sales Manager. In his position, Pasadaba is responsible for overseeing the hotel's leisure market, servicing the hotel's travel agent and wholesale customers in this area, and developing new and additional leisure business for the hotel. Pasadaba, who is originally from Oahu, worked in the food and beverage business before joining the Royal Waikoloan. His previous experience has included management positions with various popular restaurants in Honolulu, including Studebakers (Hawaii), Tanaka of Tokyo in Waikiki, Moose McGillycuddy's at University, and Tony Roma's Restaurant in Kahala. Prior to joining The Royal Waikoloan, Pasadaba was the general manager at Gecko Moon, the Big Island's newest night club.

Lori Tajiri, Front Office Manager

At the Outrigger Prince Kuhio hotel in Waikiki, Lori Tajiri has been promoted from assistant hotel manager to front office manager. In her new position, Tajiri is responsible for all front office operations at this four-paddle property, which include the front desk, bell desk, communication services and Voyagers Club. Tajiri began her career with Outrigger Hotels in 1987 as a bell clerk at the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach. Two years later, she transferred to the position of guest service representative and worked at the Outrigger Waikiki and Outrigger Maile Sky Court hotels in this capacity. In 1992, she was promoted to assistant hotel manager at the Outrigger Waikiki Surf. A year later, she transferred to the Outrigger Prince Kuhio in the same capacity. Originally from Hawaii, Tajiri holds an associates degree in Hotel Management from Kapiolani Community College.
