Mayo Named General Manager for Aston Bali Resort & Spa

HONOLULU (July 30, 1997) - Aston Hotels & Resorts has recently announced the appointment of Fred Mayo to the position of general manager of the Aston Bali Resort & Spa, a 187-room luxury beachfront resort scheduled to open in late 1997 on the Tanjung Benoa Peninsuin adjacent to Bali's prestigious Nusa Dua area.

His initial responsibilities will involve overseeing the Resort's design and completion, the hiring and training of management staff, and the conceptual planning of the Hotel's multiple outlets and facilities. Aston is the first Hawaii based management company to operate a hotel in Bali.

Mayo brings an extensive background in hotel and resort management to his position, including both spa and food and beverage experience. He has worked for major hotel groups and corporations in the United States since beginning his career in hospitality in 1974.

"I look forward to integrating Aston's methods of operation with those of Bali," says Mayo. "Preserving cultural ties with our surrounding community is an important factor in creating a successful working relationship with the Balinese people who are already rich with warrnth and a natural sense of hospitality. We will offer our guests a vacation experience that incorporates Balinese traditions and cultural experiences with the friendly service and efficiency for which Aston properties are known. It is very exciting to be at the helm of a new venture in a marketplace that attracts its business from Japan, Australia, Indonesia, North America and Europe, and which although an island, is very different from my Hawaiian homeland."

"We know the dedication and experience Fred Mayo brings to this position, and have every confidence he will develop this four-star resort into a diamond among the crown of properties which make up the Nusa Dua coastal area of this intriguing island of Bali," says Charles Brookfield, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Aston Hotels & Resorts. The four-story resort is U-shaped, allowing most rooms to enjoy both ocean and courtyard views, and features 19 oceanfront suites. Guests will enter a three-story, open air, marbled lobby designed with Balinese batik, woodcarvings and stone statues.

The resort's 9,000 square foot, freshwater pool features waterfalls and private caves, mosaic tiles, a sunken bar, and a sandy edge which blends with the nearby beach. Other highlights include a full-service spa and fitness center, a piano lounge, an entertainment lounge featuring Balinese shows, a variety of shops and boutiques, an open-air Italian Restaurant and Deli, an international restaurant featuring Balinese cuisine, and a fine-dining French/Japanese restaurant.

Based in Honolulu, Aston Hotels & Resorts plans to open six new hotels and resorts under the Aston name in Australia, Bali, Guam and the Philippines within the next 12 months. Further international expansion is planned. Aston operates condominium resorts and hotels with more than 5,000 rooms on the four major Hawaiian islands.
