Aston Builds International Marketing Team
HONOLULU (July 8, 1997) - Aston Hotels & Resorts, Hawaii's largest hotel and condominium operator, recently announced the appointment of Lloyd Nakano to the position of Corporate Director of Sales and Marketing for Aston International, LLC.
His initial responsibilities will involve the implementation and execution of the Aston Bali Resort & Spa pre-opening and annual sales and marketing plan. He will be working closely with newly appointed general manager, Fred Mayo, who has an extensive background in hotel and resort management and was previously general manager of Waimea Plantation Cottages, Kauai.
Nakano will also be negotiating with tour wholesalers, establishing rates and programs for the hotel, selecting and working with an on-site sales director, spearheading the creation of the resort's collateral material and advertising, as well as representing the property at select travel trade shows.
As Aston International, LLC grows, Nakano's role and responsibilities will take him in many directions. Properties for which he will be overseeing the establishment of pre-opening and annual sales and marketing plans in the near future include the recently opened Aston Country Resort, Rizal, Philippines, and the Aston Infinity Tower, Makati, Philippines, scheduled to open in April 1998.
Nakano brings an extensive background in hotel sales, marketing and management to the position, having worked for major hotel groups in Hawaii, on the west coast and Canada since beginning his career in hospitality in 1981. A graduate of University of Hawaii, Nakano is active in the community, speaks fluent Japanese, and joins the Aston ohana (family) having most recently managed King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel in Kailua-Kona and served as director of sales and marketing at Kona Village Resort.
"We are delighted to have someone with Lloyd's proven abilities at the vanguard of our expanding international business," states Charles Brooldield, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Aston Hotels & Resorts. "Throughout his career, Nakano has consistently increased occupancy levels by expanding business sources and aggressively marketing the properties for which he has worked, to new and broader markets. He has also addressed policies and service standards and extensively explored better and more effective ways of reaching the Japanese market. These are the capabilities we will be relying on him to bring to his position as corporate director of sales and marketing."
"My goal is to build a strong team dedicated to achieving a common goal through self motivation, belief in our product and understanding of the market in which we are doing business," says Nakano. "I am a strong believer in balance, and the need to work harder, smarter and more deliberately to succeed in business."
Based in Honolulu, Aston Hotels & Resorts plans to open six new hotels and resort under the Aston name in Australia, Bali, Guam and the Philippines within the next 12 months. Further international expansion is planned. Aston operates condominium resorts and hotels with more than 5,000 rooms on the four major Hawaiian islands.
