First Textbook on Butlering and Lifestyle Management to be Published

Being Developed by Experts from The Savoy Hotel and the School of Hospitality and Tourism at the
University of West London with Proceeds Going to The Prince's Trust and Hospitality Action

LONDON, May 15, 2013
  • First official textbook on butlering and lifestyle management to be published
  • Produced in conjunction with The Savoy hotel
  • Sponsorship and visibility within the book available for selected luxury brands
  • Proceeds to go to The Prince's Trust and Hospitality Action
Suppliers of luxury goods and services now have the opportunity to feature in the first official textbook on butlering and lifestyle management. Already confirmed supporters of the book include The Savoy and the Academy of Food and Wine Service.

To be published next spring, this new textbook will be an invaluable guide to students looking for a career in the luxury hospitality, private service and superyacht industry and others already working in these sectors. It's being developed by experts including Sean Davoren, the Savoy's Head Butler, and Professor David Foskett, MBE, CMA, Head of the School of Hospitality and Tourism at the University of West London, which delivers the Diploma for Butlers course at The Savoy.

Proceeds from this unique project will go to support The Prince's Trust, the charity which gives practical and financial support to develop key workplace skills for young people, and Hospitality Action, which was founded in 1837 and helps those in the hospitality industry who find themselves facing a crisis.

"The global demand for butlers and lifestyle managers has grown rapidly in recent years," says Neil Anthony Richmond, organiser of the project, co-author of the textbook, and founder of Morpho Luxury Asset Management, the global family office lifestyle advisory.

The book will be distributed to luxury hospitality training institutions worldwide including the University of West London, the Savoy Butler Academy, and universities and colleges in Hong Kong and Malaysia. "Although there are various ways of completing the butler training, currently there is no single, official textbook for students and experienced butlers," says Patricia Paskins, Head of International Butler Training programmes at the University of West London. "Our book will provide detailed, practical information from authoritative and internationally recognized sources," says Professor David Foskett.

Luxury goods and services suppliers now have the opportunity to acquire a presence in a book that is written by experts with the highest design and production standards and is therefore destined to become the market leading publication in this fast growing industry.

"There's a clear need for this book to develop training in the luxury service industry," says Sean Davoren. "Its support for charities adds to its appeal," says Neil Anthony Richmond. "The response from representatives in the luxury industry has been very positive and already space is filling up."

The University of West London, which was awarded the Queen's Anniversary Prize, delivers the Diploma for Butlers course at The Savoy and other leading luxury hotels, colleges and universities in London and Hong Kong. Recently the University joined with The Savoy to form the Savoy Butler Academy. http://www.uwl.ac.uk

Youth charity The Prince's Trust helps disadvantaged young people to get their lives on track. It supports 13 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed and those struggling at school and at risk of exclusion. Many of the young people helped by The Prince's Trust are in or leaving care, facing issues such as homelessness or mental health problems, or they have been in trouble with the law. The Trust's programmes give vulnerable young people the practical and financial support needed to stabilise their lives, helping develop self-esteem and skills for work. Three in four young people supported by The Prince's Trust move into work, education or training. The Prince of Wales's charity has helped more than 700,000 young people since 1976 and supports 100 more each day. Further information about The Prince's Trust is available at princes-trust.org.uk or on 0800 842 842.

Established in 1837, Hospitality Action, the Hospitality Industry Benevolent Organisation, has offered vital assistance to all who work or have worked within hospitality in the UK and who find themselves in crisis.

In 2012 the charity assisted 1,584 hospitality people in need. Some 76% of those helped were below the age of 60. Further information regarding Hospitality Action can be found via: http://www.hospitalityaction.org.uk or on +44(0)20-3004-5504.
