News for the Hospitality Executive
Washington, DC - March 20, 2013 – Dan Nadeau has been named General Manager of Washington Marriott Marquis, opening spring 2014. In this position Mr. Nadeau will oversee all operations of the $520-million hotel, which will be one of only five Marriott Marquis properties in the country. Washington Marriott Marquis will have 1,175 rooms, which includes 49 suites, and over 105,000 square feet of function space, as well as five separate retail and restaurant spaces. The dynamic hotel will become the epicenter of DC’s downtown neighborhood and introduce a new venue for social gatherings, business travelers, and meetings and conventions.
A 30-year Marriott veteran, Mr. Nadeau was most recently general manager at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park, Washington DC’s largest hotel. He has held numerous sales and marketing positions at several Marriott hotels—including the Bethesda Marriott, New York Marriott Marquis, Newark Airport Marriott, and Marriott’s Castle Harbor in Bermuda—before holding several senior leadership positions in operations for Marriott’s Eastern Region—including general manager of the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront in Baltimore, Md. Mr. Nadeau is an active member of the DC community and currently serves on the boards of the Capital Area Food Bank, the Washington, DC Hotel Association, Destination DC, the Board of Trade and the American Hotel Lodging Association (AHLA).
“We are so pleased to have Dan at the helm for this highly anticipated hotel opening. His experience and knowledge of Washington, DC make him an outstanding choice to lead the opening team and introduce travelers to a dynamic new property for Marriott,” says David Marriott, chief operations officer, Americas Eastern Region, Marriott International.
Washington Marriott Marquis function space will include a 30,000 square-foot Grand Ballroom with 22' ceilings and two junior ballrooms. In addition to its expansive meetings space, Washington Marriott Marquis is connected via an underground concourse to the Washington DC Convention Center. Additional meeting space includes more than 55 breakout rooms plus outdoor terraces overlooking the surrounding City Center and Penn Quarter neighborhoods.
Washington Marriott Marquis is also poised to become the brand-new social hub of downtown DC, with a grand atrium lobby and five separate restaurant spaces. The hotel will be one of the largest in the country to earn LEED ® Silver accreditation.
