Hotel Vitale, a Joie de Vivre Property, in San Francisco Appoints
Executive Chef Kory Stewart as Food and Beverage Director

Assuming Dual Roles at Waterfront Property

SAN FRANCISCO (March 27, 2013) – Hotel Vitale, a Joie de Vivre property, is pleased to announce the appointment of Executive Chef Kory Stewart as food and beverage director at San Francisco’s only luxury waterfront hotel.  In this dual role, Stewart is responsible for the overall success of Hotel Vitale’s food-and-beverage operations including Americano, where Stewart has served as executive chef for several years; as well as in-room dining, beverage programs and event menus, which bear Stewart’s hallmark of serving robust and seasonal California cuisine, melded with rustic Italian influences.

“We are thrilled to expand Chef Stewart's role and have him oversee all aspects of food and beverage at Hotel Vitale,” said Melony Williams, general manager.  “As executive chef, he has been the force behind delivering a comprehensive culinary experience for our guests by producing all dishes for Americano, as well as for Hotel Vitale's in-room dining and meetings & events, in the restaurant's kitchen.  Chef Stewart is not only an extraordinary culinary talent, but also a visionary leader dedicated to ensuring that every Hotel Vitale guest has a special visit, whether staying at the hotel, attending a special event or dining at Americano."

Stewart has served as Hotel Vitale’s executive chef since 2010.  Since his arrival at the hotel in 2007, he held the additional posts of executive sous chef and sous chef.  At Americano, Stewart’s comprehensive “hand-crafted” menu celebrates bold, Italian flavors in a California context, with daily house-made pasta, fresh mozzarella and other fresh Italian cheeses made in house.  His menu choices are driven by what is available at the Ferry Building Marketplace, located across the street from his kitchen.  Stewart also creates bi-annual “wild foods” dinners, which feature chef-foraged local foods including fish, seafood, wild mushrooms, wild flowers, vegetables and fruits.

Prior to Hotel Vitale and Americano, Stewart worked in the kitchens of Michael Mina and Scott Howard at both chefs’ acclaimed eponymous restaurants.  Stewart studied at San Francisco’s California Culinary Academy in 2002, during which time he worked the award-winning Postrio restaurant for chefs Steven and Mitchell Rosenthall, who later recruited Stewart to join the culinary team at their Southern-inspired restaurant, Town Hall.

Hotel Vitale in San Francisco offers waterfront views that include iconic San Francisco landmarks such as The Ferry Building, the Bay Bridge, Treasure Island and Alcatraz, all of which can be taken in from Hotel Vitale’s unique outdoor terrace event spaces and from the Americano patio on the hotel’s lobby level.  Additionally, Hotel Vitale’s Deluxe Waterfront guestrooms and Americano offer unparalleled vantage points for The Bay Lights’ extraordinary viewing experience.  Hotel Vitale offers many indulgences and amenities with a “luxury, naturally” experience for every guest.  The popular penthouse-level Spa Vitale provides therapeutic massage and facial treatments, and Americano Restaurant, under the direction of Executive Chef Kory Stewart, serves hand-crafted, Italian cuisine.

Hotel Vitale is located at 8 Mission Street at the corner of Embarcadero in San Francisco.  For more information, please visit www.hotelvitale.com.
