Kimpton’s 201-room Hotel Monaco in San Francisco, California
Completes Renovation

SAN FRANCISCO— (March 1, 2013) — This winter, Kimpton’s Hotel Monaco in San Francisco greets its guests with a stylish and playful new look inspired by the brand’s founder and visionary, Bill Kimpton. Located just steps from Union Square, and in the heart of the city’s theater district, the four-star hotel debuts a whimsical and bold design that incorporates a sense of discovery and imagination intermingled with the sophistication for which the Monaco is best known.

All of the hotel’s 201 guestrooms and suites have been completely transformed by design firm Andrea Dawson Designs, Inc. Each room becomes an eclectic and sophisticated retreat, reflective of contemporary designs and the independent spirit for which San Francisco is known. The classic and dramatic architecture of the historic building is perfectly complemented by a variety of elements from all corners of the globe, creating a kaleidoscope of color and international panache. Guestrooms feature elaborate French Art Nouveau headboards and luxurious silk pillows, setting the stage for an experience to remember. Beautifully understated linen drapery bordered with a traditional Indian block print motif complement the room’s bold graphic of laser-cut striped wallpaper and trompe-l’oeil cabinetry.

“Today’s modern traveler isn’t just looking for a stylish place to stay when they are visiting another city,” says Monaco General Manager Jason Stone.  “We really set out to create not just a sophisticated, new design but an all-encompassing experience that truly resonates with our guests and that makes them feel inspired and at home. Our landmark hotel really captures the essence and vibrancy of our city and the imagination of our guests.”

Upon entering the lobby, with its frescoed ceilings, curved marble staircase and crackling fireplaces, guests will be transported to a time when travel had an air of epic wonder.  Much of the artwork that was originally curated for the hotel in 1995 has been integrated into the new design, including The Tree of Life, created by acclaimed sculptor Albert Guibara.  The sculpture is at the very heart of the Monaco San Francisco and represents many of Mr. Kimpton’s passions that are alive and well at the hotel today.

The Monaco also offers guests an on-site fitness center and spa, which includes a steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi. The Monaco also provides more than 7,000 square-feet of meeting and event space perfect for any occasion — glamorous weddings, elegant social events or corporate meetings. All events are catered by Kimpton’s The Grand Café Brasserie & Bar , located adjacent to the hotel, which offers one of the city's top bars and arguably its most stunning dining room. Executive Chef Alicia Jenish’s fantastic menus highlight the classic iterations of French cuisine, while weaving in a lighter, healthier, and distinctly San Franciscan approach.

Whether their mission is pure relaxation, or a combination of business and pleasure, guests at the Hotel Monaco enjoy a wealth of amenities. Concierge and administrative services, as well as business, postal, and computer services, are always available. Wine is served each evening in the living room, as is morning coffee. Overnight shoeshine, valet/laundry, 24-hour room service, and in-room massage are also available at the hotel.
