January 18, 2012 (BURLINGTON, VERMONT) - There will soon be a new address for travelers to enjoy Vermont-style hospitality, and its name says it all. Hotel Vermont is set to open at 41 Cherry Street in the heart of Burlington in Spring 2013. The 125-bedroom hotel expects to be LEED-certified and will draw guests with an authentic Vermont experience including the newest outpost of one the state's most favored dining spots, Hen of the Wood Restaurant.
Hotel Vermont is locally developed, owned and operated with design, construction and management teams all Burlington-based. The hotel is being designed to stimulate the senses of upscale leisure and business travelers by local architecture and interior design firm, TruexCullins, who will ensure the hotel offers an authentic "Vermont" experience.
Experienced hotelier Hans van Wees is the General Manager of Hotel Vermont. He has extensive Vermont hospitality experience and said, "this project is a first for Burlington. We are bringing an independent, luxury boutique hotel to the city so travelers can enjoy our destination and locals can use this as a meeting place, especially with our Hen of the Wood location."
Public spaces indoors and out will be comfortably designed. The hotel lobby will feature a wood-burning hearth and with the aroma of cider brewing, guests will be reminded they are in Vermont.
Kim Deetjen with TruexCullins Interiors explained, "Building a hotel in Vermont means using quality materials with integrity. The hotel will evoke a true Vermont experience using local materials such as furniture made from white oak indigenous to Vermont, stone countertops with Vermont marble, and flooring made from reclaimed antique red oak."
An outdoor terrace with an open hearth, features views of Lake Champlain. The hotel will also have 2,000 square feet of green roof space, along with a 7,500 square foot Harbor Terrace that features local artist Richard Erdman's bronze sculptures. The hotel will offer four meeting rooms, two of which are water-view function rooms with 1,100 square feet of space for meetings and events for up to 80 guests. Hotel Vermont will also be the first hotel in the state to offer 100Mbs synchronous broadband internet access - the fastest of its kind - through a partnership with Burlington Telecom.
Juniper, the hotel bar and restaurant, will serve morning pastries, small producer coffee, and afternoon tea service. In the evening, Juniper will offer farm-inspired "carbon-negative" cocktails - using ingredients that balance the hotel's carbon footprint - as well as limited-production beer and wine and small plates.
Hotel Vermont will be the Burlington home of Hen of the Wood Restaurant featuring the acclaimed farm-to-table cuisine and intuitive service standards of 2011 James Beard Award nominee Chef Eric Warnstedt. The restaurant is known for its use of small production and family farms, a natural approach to wine, and a constantly changing menu.
The anticipated opening of Hotel Vermont will elevate the level of hospitality in Burlington to a new level. The hotel is named for the original Hotel Vermont, which first welcomed guests on the corner of Main Street and St. Paul Street in Burlington 100 years ago. The groundbreaking of the new property was attended by Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin and Commerce Secretary Lawrence Miller in September 2011.
