Digital Signage Expo 2013:
Exploring Developments Having the Greatest Impact on the Digital Signage Industry


January 7, 2013 - The Digital Signage Expo (DSE) 2013 is just around the corner. Co-located with the Interactive Technology Expo and Digital Content Show, the DSE will present its three-day conference on Feb. 26-28, 2013, with the exhibition hall open for two days starting on Feb. 27-28 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas. KEYNOTE

Peter L. Bocko, Ph.D., chief technology officer for Corning Glass Technologies, Corning, will deliver the Wednesday, Feb. 27 keynote address at DSE’s 10th Anniversary 2013 Las Vegas event.

Dr. Bocko—one of the foremost glass experts in the display industry and who has contributed to the design, technology delivery, and commercialization of innovative new technologies at Corning, will present “Looking Forward by Looking Back: A Futuristic Retrospective on the Trends in Display and Digital Signage.”

In keeping with the conference theme, “Innovation Inspires,” Bocko’s remarks will address those key developments he believes have had the greatest impact on the digital signage industry, describe the compelling value propositions for advanced capabilities such as high resolution, interactivity, 3D, transparent displays, and audio, and the innovative role each will play in the future.

KEYNOTE PANEL

On Feb. 28, a panel of industry experts will present “Digital Signage 2020: Eyes on the Future. The panelists will share their vision of how technological advancements will inspire change and how these changes will shape the future of the digital signage industry. Curt Bailey, president of Sundberg-Ferar, will share his thoughts on product design evolution. Tim Huckaby, founder and chairman of InterKnowlogy, will present on interface advancements such as natural user interface (NUI) as the next big method of interaction. Christine Outram, creative director of Re:Imagine Group, will provide insight into professional skills evolution. Finally, Jared Schiffman, founder and CEO of Perch Interactive, will take a look at multi-sensory communication and what interface is best to cultivate the relationship between media and product.

CONTENT UNIVERSITY & HANDS-ON CONTENT WORSHOP

New to DSE is the Content University Seminar Program and Hands-On Content Workshop designed specifically to help those who are now managing and operating digital signage systems or networks develop successful content strategies and improve their content creation. The university seminar program topics to be covered include:
  • The importance of developing a content strategy.
  • How to identify and plan for content-related costs.
  • What makes content effective.
  • Tips and best practices.
The Hands-On Content Workshop, a half-day program on Feb. 26, will feature ideas and inspiration from a faculty of well-known content creators, end-users, and network operators who will focus instruction on content creation for retail, restaurants, healthcare, education, and corporate communications.

DOOH NETWORKS SEMINAR PROGRAM

The DOOH Networks Seminar Program is part of DSE’s eight-track educational conference and is designed specifically for DOOH network operators of revenue generating systems, as well as digital signage (DS) and end-user managers and administrators of premise-owned systems intended to generate advertising revenue. This educational track is intended to provide a hard look at issues critical to management success. Topics to be covered include:
  • Building more profitable networks.
  • How to increase sales and product awareness to generate profit.
  • How to get noticed and validate value for advertisers.
  • An advertising agency perspective on digital place-based networks.
Attendees will have the benefit of hearing directly from successful network operators who, based on hard-earned experience, will share factual and anecdotal experiences that will help illuminate business solutions. Each session will be led by professionals from a variety of disciplines within DOOH Networks and advertising agency professionals, as well as knowledgeable industry consultants and technology providers.

DIGITAL SIGNAGE FUNDAMENTALS SEMINAR PROGRAM

The four-part Digital Signage Fundamentals Seminar Program is designed specifically to prepare those investing for the first time to deal with initial planning and execution challenges. It is part of DSE’s eight-track educational conference and is designed specifically for those DOOH network operators of revenue- and non-revenue generating systems, digital signage (DS) end-users, and systems integrators and installers who are relatively new to the industry. This educational track is intended to provide an introduction to the DS industry by promoting a better understanding of the seven elements that comprise a DS system. Topics to be covered include:
  • Case studies: The trials and triumphs of two successful digital signage network launches
  • Planning and substantiating a project: The business side of dynamic digital signage
  • Estimating total cost of ownership: The hidden costs of digital signage deployment and operation
  • Working with your IT team: How to work with IT to make your digital signage a success
Instruction will be a straightforward presentation of how to in terms that are easy to understand and immediately applicable. Each session will be led by professionals who will be sharing hard-earned experience and come from a variety of disciplines within DOOH Networks, as well as end-users from the financial, retail, and hospitality fields, along with knowledgeable industry consultants and technology providers.

DIGITAL SIGNAGE NETWORK DESIGN, MANAGEMENT & OPERATION SEMINAR PROGRAM

The four-part Network Design, Management & Operations Seminar Program is designed specifically to prepare those who are planning to design, manage and operate or are now managing and operating Place-Based or Out-of-Home networks. It is part of DSE’s eight-track Educational Conference and is designed specifically for network operators of both revenue- and non-revenue generating systems, digital signage (DS) end-users, and systems integrators and installers who participate in or are responsible for design, management and operations. This educational track is intended to provide insights into the planning and initial deployment stages, as well as identify the team skill sets necessary to support a successful installation. Topics to be covered include:
