Feb. 10, 2013--If you've driven down Cave Mill Road lately, the progress on a new extended-stay hotel is evident.

The exterior of the multistory building looks nearly complete, while the interior is a beehive of activity.

"We're all dried in and have gotten the mechanical systems operational," David Chandler said of what will be his Marriott TownPlace Suites. "The fourth floor is considerably farther along because you start at the top floor with the floor covering and paint and work your way down.

"We could be finished with construction pretty soon," said Chandler, also the owner of Chandler Real Estate.

But installation of all the furniture, fixtures and finishes could take another six to seven weeks, he said.

The executive team is pretty much in place and will include Anderson Hospitality Group, owned by Jeff Anderson, as the management company. Chandler expects the facility will have about 25 employees, who are in the process of being hired now.

Anderson, a Western Kentucky University graduate, worked for Hilton International for 22 years where he was a vice president before starting his company here late last year. In addition to this new property, the company manages Chandler's Hilton Garden Inn and is the receiver-appointed management company for Comfort Inn and Suites in Franklin.

The hotel will include an indoor swimming pool and common areas. Its 101 rooms will consist of 15 two-bedroom suites, 14 one-bedroom suites with the remainder being studios, Anderson said.

All will have kitchens and bathrooms with granite countertops. Rooms also will have a separate workspace since business travelers will be the key target audience.

In a perfect world, the $11.5 million project would be complete by April, but Chandler expects it will be closer to May 1.

With that completion date in mind, it's time to start getting contracts with corporate clients, he said. They already have had initial contact with some, giving Chandler hope to be in the high 60 percent occupancy rate within six months.

"We really like this location because of the proximity to the mall and restaurants, and it's very convenient to the interstate as well as the major stay generators," Chandler said.

Once complete, there will be five acres remaining in for development in the 40-acre Chandler Park. Chandler built apartments and an assisted living facility that he owns and other businesses.

The last spot will go to some kind of retail commercial venture.

"But we will be selective in what we do there," Chandler said. "We have been to this point and we will continue to be."
