Swisscom Hospitality Boosts its Technical Operations and
Major Accounts Management in the Americas

Aggressive Growth Program in the Americas Continues

Swisscom Hospitality has announced today the hiring of Michael Thomas and Gwen Purtell, two senior hospitality technology professionals, as part of its growth program in the Americas. Michael Thomas will oversee Swisscom’s system integration and field operations activities and Gwen Purtell will have major account responsibility for selected major accounts, primarily on the East Coast / mid-Atlantic area.

26 February 2013 - This announcement comes only three weeks after the appointment of Greg Wutzke as a Director of Business Development based in Chicago and Patrick Lewis as Director, Solutions Architecture for Swisscom’s Americas team. Swisscom’s competency building program is designed to provide hoteliers in the Americas with a unique pool of resources in business development, engineering, operations and customer support services, while leveraging Swisscom’s global capabilities as a prime technology provider and network operator.

Michael Thomas is strengthening Swisscom Hospitality’s operations leadership team as Director of Professional Services. Michael can draw on many years of engineering and operations experience, including more than ten years with IBAHN in progressively key positions, including Director of Americas Field Services and Director of Technical Operations.  He gained his spurs in various engineering and technical disciplines at MCI Worldcom.

Based in Boston, Gwen Purtell is joining Swisscom Hospitality as a Director of Business Development, Major Accounts. She began her career in the hospitality industry in sales management with Interstate Hotels & Resorts and later with Starwood.  Gwen joined IBAHN in 2000, where she crossed paths with Thomas, as a strategic account executive and was most recently Director of Major Accounts. Having been in constant contact with hotel brands, management companies and asset managers for over ten years now, Gwen has gained an almost unparalleled understanding of the hospitality technology business and its actors.

“With Michael and Gwen joining our Americas team, we continue to execute on our accelerated growth and scale strategy for the Americas”, says Mark Holzberg, VP, The Americas and Global Managed Services for Swisscom. “This is a critical time where the industry is asking for a true solutions provider that can scale globally and also execute locally. Having myself joined Swisscom only recently, I am very excited to see this company taking the initiative and being ready to shape the industry’s future, and we’ve only just begun.”
