Presidio
of San Francisco
(February 20, 2013) - The popular 22-room Inn
at the Presidio will soon be expanded to include an additional four
rooms in a nearby historic house. Rooms at the Inn at the Presidio, the
first lodging in the
Presidio, have been in high demand since it opened in April, 2012. It
was
recently selected as one of Fodor’s Top 100 Hotels for 2012. The gracious guestrooms, a project of the Presidio Trust, will be located in a rehabilitated historic house on Funston Avenue, just down the street from the Inn at the Presidio. Funston Avenue, also known as “Officers’ Row” is lined with wood-frame homes that make up the oldest intact streetscape in San Francisco and one of the park’s most beloved landscapes. The homes were built circa 1862 for U.S. Army officers and their families. “The Funston House will be a wonderful addition to the Inn at the Presidio,” said Craig Middleton, Presidio Trust Executive Director. “The Trust is proud of its track-record of rehabilitating historic buildings using green design strategies to create welcoming and beautiful contemporary spaces.” The Funston House rehabilitation is expected to achieve a “Green Point” rating, an independent seal of approval that verifies a home has been built or remodeled according to proven green standards. Like the Inn at the Presidio, the Funston House’s interior will celebrate the Presidio’s past with artisan details and memorabilia, complemented by comfortable, modern furnishings thanks to the successful team behind the Inn at the Presidio. Historic photographs and contemporary regional art will bring to life the park's military history and amazing natural setting. The $1 million renovation includes four bedrooms, a common living room, dining room, service kitchen, and outdoor porch and patio. The Funston House will be managed by operator of the Inn and the Presidio, Waterford Hotels and Inns, LLC.
