The Historic Hanover Inn at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire
Completes $40+ Million Renovation and Modernization

Hanover, NH, November 7, 2012
-- More than two centuries after an inn was established at the southwest corner of the Dartmouth Green, The Hanover Inn at Dartmouth has undergone a modernization that successfully melds its historic roots with 21st century conveniences and amenities.  The top-to-bottom enhancements include an inviting new lobby with wifi, a conference center befitting a prestigious educational institution, the largest ballroom in the Upper Valley, new guestrooms and suites, a health and fitness facility, and a signature restaurant overlooking the Dartmouth Green and Main Street.

The Inn’s intrinsic charm remains, with iconic local references woven throughout.  A 2,800-pound, hand-crafted “Concord Gray” granite table is the lobby’s new centerpiece.  It’s berthed on a custom-designed black & white area rug whose colors were inspired by the birch trees so plentiful in the surrounding New Hampshire woods.  A series of hand-blown glass lamps from the renowned glass blower Simon Pearce of nearby Quechee, Vermont, illuminate the lobby under the new skylight.

The striking improvements were spearheaded by a team including Boston developer Richard Friedman (Class of ’63) of Carpenter & Co, along with New York-based interior designer Bill Rooney, and Architects, Cambridge 7 Associates of Boston, MA.  “The Inn is Dartmouth’s front door,” said William Anderson, Vice President of Campus Planning and Facilities.  “We are excited to introduce both new and returning guests to a contemporary and refreshed Inn.”

The Hanover Inn offers guests ample space for both corporate meetings and social events.  The new Minary Conference Center, an 11,000 sq. ft. facility, includes a 4,000 sq. ft. grand ballroom, seven executive conference rooms, and the 1,761 sq. ft. Hayward Room overlooking the picturesque Dartmouth Green with its own granite fireplace and 103-inch plasma screen TV.  Each room includes custom art work, state-of-the-art audio and visual equipment and cutting-edge technology.  Located at the corner of Main Street and Wheelock, the conference center is attached to the Hopkins Center for the Arts, adjacent to the Hood Museum of Art, and steps away from the new Black Family Visual Arts Center.

“We eagerly welcome guests to experience the updated Inn, which is the new, premiere hotel and conference facility between Boston and Montreal,” stated Joe Mellia, General Manager.  “The service and ambience embody the sense of community, warmth and personal attention that defines the Hanover experience.”

Despite the Inn’s makeover, traditions remain intact.  Alumni will rejoice seeing the comfortable rocking chairs on the front porch facing Baker Library and the Green.  Class gifts like the vintage weather station and the visiting alumni roster maintain their rightful place.  The comfortable guest rooms have plush new beds with collegiate style cable knit throws and Pompanoosuc Mills custom furnishings.

There are reasons to stay at The Hanover Inn beyond the College, the arts institutions and the town’s charm.  It’s the only hotel located on the Appalachian Trail, steps from the Ledyard Canoe Club on the Connecticut River, the Dartmouth Skiway and the 18-hole golf course at the Hanover Country Club, to name a few.

An exciting new restaurant, developed by Boston-based, James Beard award-winner Michael Schlow, will open Winter 2013.

A member of Historic Hotels of America and a Preferred Boutique property the Hanover Inn perfectly blends tradition with sophistication.  For availability and rates please visit us at www.hanoverinn.com
