Capella Hotel Group Appoints Ed Linsley as General Manager
for AYANA Resort and Spa Bali

JIMBARAN, BALI – November 28, 2012
– AYANA Resort and Spa Bali has announced the appointment of Ed Linsley as General Manager following a careful selection process which was personally led by Horst Schulze, founder and chief executive of Capella Hotel Group.

Mr. Linsley, a veteran industry leader with more than 22 years’ experience in hotels and resorts – 21 of which were with Four Seasons Hotels – was previously Resort Manager of Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay, before moving to Vietnam last year as General Manager of The Nam Hai Resort. He was drawn back to Bali by its people, and the opportunity to be part of what he considers a most visionary and inspiring hotel management company, Capella Hotel Group.

“I missed the soul of Bali and the people, but it was really the Capella name which prompted me to leave Vietnam earlier than I had envisaged. It was what the Capella Hotel Group represents, the respect for the local people and the community – which is a very important element in my life – the culture of the company and their business ethics,” said Mr Linsley, a Pennsylvania native with a strong background in food and beverage management.

Mr Schulze, who traveled to Bali to personally introduce Mr Linsley to AYANA’s 950-person staff, said finding the right person to lead AYANA required an intense recruitment process and worldwide search. “AYANA is like my baby. I opened this resort in 1996, and I was here for its rebirth in April 2009 when the owner appointed Capella Hotel Group as the new management company,” he said. “Since its rebranding that year, AYANA has evolved into one of the world’s most outstanding properties, setting records at every level: It is more profitable than before, and both guest satisfaction and employee satisfaction scores are higher than ever. Mr Linsley’s appointment is the next stage in the resort’s continuing evolution, to take it to new heights in service excellence consistent with our Canon service standards and Zeitgeist philosophy.”

Mr Linsley said he was delighted to join the team at AYANA, a resort with which he was familiar and had visited often when he lived in Bali. “I used to come to AYANA and was always amazed by the scope of the property and the uniqueness of its offerings, from the iconic Rock Bar to the world’s largest Aquatonic Seawater Therapy Pool, the Spa on the Rocks, the Villas as a separate ‘resort within a resort’ to the main Hotel, the wedding chapels and the diversity and quality of its 12 dining venues. I am honored to have the opportunity to lead this resort to continued success in the future,” he said.

His dynamic and charismatic leadership style are underpinned by his warmth and respect for his team. Coming back to Bali was always his intent after his first tenure here, when he fell in love with the people and the culture. His return to the island is almost poetic justice, given that one of his favorite quotes is from T.S. Eliot: "We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time".

A member of the World Affairs Council, Mr Linsley is passionate about community welfare and devotes much of his personal time to helping those less fortunate. He is eager to resume his community activities in Bali, as well as explore more of the island on his Harley Davidson. An outdoors enthusiast, his interests include collecting art, travel, photography, cooking and sailing.
