Gold Key|PHR Hotels and Resorts Breaks Ground on $50 Million
167-room Hilton Garden Inn Virginia Beach in Virginia

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Dec 4, 2012
-- Virginia Beach-based Gold Key|PHR Hotels and Resorts™ continues its march up the Virginia Beach Oceanfront with the groundbreaking for its newest hotel, Hilton Garden Inn®. The Diplomat Hotel, built on the Oceanfront at 35th Street in 1930, has fallen to the wrecking ball to make room for the company's 9th Virginia Beach Oceanfront property.

With an expected opening date of May, 2014 the new Hilton Garden Inn will offer 167, all-oceanfront guest rooms, including 24 suites, 12 executive suites, a new signature restaurant, indoor/outdoor pool, and 5000 sq ft oceanfront meeting and conference space.

Gold Key|PHR Hotels and Resorts has been credited with upgrading the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, having razed and replaced several early 20th century hotels with upscale, contemporary, amenity-rich resorts. The Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront is one of the flagship properties with its popular Catch 31 Fish House & Bar ™, Sky Bar™ and Salacia Prime Seafood and Steaks Restaurant™. Gold Key|PHR Hotels and Resorts introduced the $70 million Oceanaire™, the newest addition to the Ocean Beach Club™ during the summer. Additionally, Gold Key|PHR Hotels and Resorts will open 31 Ocean in February, a $75 million mixed use complex adjacent to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.

"We have done extremely well with the Hilton franchise in Virginia Beach," said Bruce Thompson, CEO of Gold Key|PHR Resorts and Hotels. "The Hilton Garden Inn is a logical extension of our relationship with Hilton Worldwide and complements our various properties on the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. With the completion of the Hilton Garden Inn in 2014, we will have invested more than $200 million on the Virginia Beach Oceanfront since 2010. This investment is an important part of a 5-year plan that will ultimately add 1,000 new jobs to our local economy. Obviously we continue to be very optimistic about the future of this great resort city."

Hilton Garden Inn, a member of the Hilton Worldwide group of hotels, received the distinguished "Highest Guest Satisfaction among Mid-Scale Hotel Chains with Full Service" award in the J.D. Power and Associates North America Hotel Guest Satisfaction Index Study.

The Hilton Garden Inn Virginia Beach was designed by H&A Architects & Engineers. Interior design is managed by Las Vegas' Cleo Design. WM Jordan Company is the general contractor and financing was arranged by US Bank.
