Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts Development Pipeline Includes 2013
Openings in London, Istanbul, Shanghai, Mumbai, Doha and More

December 11, 2012 - Shangri-La  Hotels  and  Resorts  will  bring  its  hallmark  gracious  service  from  the  heart  to Mumbai, Istanbul and London in the next 12 months. Featuring spacious, well-appointed guestrooms, expansive lobbies, gourmet restaurants and unparalleled views, these hotels will further establish Shangri-La in India and Europe.

With over 70 hotels worldwide, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts currently welcomes guests on four continents in 18 countries/regions and over 50 destinations across the globe, including Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Shanghai.   The group’s most recently opened property, Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto, adds to the company’s growing portfolio of global gateway cities.

Further off the beaten track, the group will continue to expand into new markets with hotels opening in Qatar, Mongolia and Sri Lanka. Developments in China, Malaysia, India and the Philippines will strengthen Shangri-La’s well-established presence within Asia.

Notable Openings to Come:

Shangri-La Hotel, Mumbai will open in the first quarter of 2013 and will be Shangri-La’s second property in India.  Designed by Mumbai-based Shekhar Patki, the 410-room hotel is located in the heart of the city, within the Lower Parel.

Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul, the group's first hotel in Turkey, will open in early 2013.  The 186-room hotel is located between the Dolmabahçe Palace and the Maritime Museum on the European coast of the Bosphorus Strait.

Shangri-La Hotel, At The Shard, London will open in the second quarter of 2013 and will be the first hotel in the United Kingdom for Shangri-La. The 202-room hotel occupies floors 34 to 52 of The Shard, at 1,016 feet the tallest building in Europe.  Designed by Renzo Piano, The Shard will offer views of London landmarks such as St. Paul’s Cathedral, The Gherkin building, the London Eye, Tower Bridge and the Tower of London.

Jing An Shangri-La, West Shanghai, the group's third hotel in Shanghai and its first hotel on the west side of the city, will open in the second quarter of 2013.  The 508-guestroom hotel occupies the top 28 floors of a 59-story building, and the hotel’s restaurants are being designed by Hong Kong-based Andre Fu, Tokyo-based Super Potato and New York-based AvroKO.

Shangri-La  Hotel,  Doha  will  open  in  the  second  quarter  of  2013.    The  hotel  will  be Shangri-La’s sixth hotel in the Middle East, complementing the group’s four hotels in the United Arab Emirates and a resort in the Sultanate of Oman.

Shangri-La Hotel, Lhasa will open in the third quarter of 2013 on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, the highest region on earth.  The 284-room urban resort will rest amongst the tallest peaks in the world: a striking mountain landscape of glaciers, valleys and lakes.

Shangri-La Hotel, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia will open in the capital of Mongolia in 2013. Shangri-La’s first hotel in Mongolia will be part of an office, retail and hotel complex located on the east side of the Sukhe-Bator Square in the center of Ulaanbaatar city.

Shangri-La is planning two developments in Sri Lanka.   The group will initially open a beachside resort with 377 rooms plus villas on the southern Hambantota coast in 2014.  The following year, a multi-use complex with shopping facilities, residences and a luxury hotel will open in Colombo.

Shangri-La Hotel, Qufu will open in the first quarter of 2013.  An ancient walled city in Shandong Province and two hours north of Shanghai, Qufu is the birthplace of Confucius.
