Haikou on Hainan Island in China

December 3, 2012
- Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts officially arrived on the shore of ‘China’s Hawaii’ this week with the opening of the 337-room Shangri-La Hotel, Haikou on Hainan Island. Located seaside amidst a sprawling lush tropical garden, the luxury hotel offers spectacular sea views, a full range of urban resort amenities, and extensive event and meeting venues.

Hainan Island has been tapped to become a leading international tourism resort destination, and the provincial capital of Haikou is its tourism and cultural center and transportation hub, making it ideal for leisure and business travelers.  The Shangri-La Hotel, Haikou caters extensively to the meetings and wedding markets with stunning venues and a convenient location adjacent to the Hainan International Exhibition Center.

One of the hotel’s stand-out venues is the Hall of Splendor, which is set in the hotel’s 30,000-square-meter (322,917-square-foot) tropical garden and features dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the sea. The property’s 986-square-meter (10,613-square-foot) Grand Ballroom is pillar free and is the largest among the city’s starred hotels. In total the hotel offers 2,400 square meters (25,583 square feet) of meeting and conference space.

In addition to Shangri-La’s renowned hospitality, Shangri-La Hotel, Haikou features brand signatures such as spacious, well-appointed guestrooms; complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the hotel; an enticing array of restaurants, and a full complement of leisure and recreational facilities, including outdoor and indoor swimming pools, natural hot spring pools, a gym, tennis court and a spa.

Restaurants range from Sirena, an Italian seafood restaurant, to the lively Café Kool with its chef-manned cooking stations featuring an array of international cuisine. The hotel’s Shang Palace serves authentic Cantonese cuisine and Hainan specialities.
