Santa Fe's Historic Bishop's Lodge Ranch Resort and Spa Listed for Sale

Newport Beach, CA - December 6, 2012 -- Only the third time for sale in 100 years, Santa Fe’s historic Bishop’s Lodge Ranch Resort and Spa is listed and expected to sell in early 2013.

Formerly owned by the Pulitzer publishing family, Thorpe family and then sold to Lend Lease in 1998 as part of the VEF Funds, the property has since added numerous guestroom buildings and a full-service spa, creating a unique ranch resort setting that is unlike any other destination resort property in the area. The institutional owner selected Maxim Hotel Brokerage, Inc. to market the property for sale.  According to Harry Pflueger of Maxim, “There are few resorts that can offer Bishop Lodge’s irreplaceable setting with 317 pristine acres, not to mention the historic authenticity provided by the on-site Bishop’s chapel dating back the 1860s.  Guests can sense authenticity, and there is value to that.  For example, without over 150 years of history it would be impossible to have Bishop’s Lodge Road, a State Route leading from the Historic Plaza out past your resort, named after your property today.  Despite transactions above $350,000 per room for comparable properties at other points in the investment cycle, Bishop’s Lodge is expected to sell at a fraction of replacement cost.  This is a tremendous value-add opportunity.”

Entitlements exist to expand the resort from its current count of 91 to 144 guestrooms. The property also offers ShaNah Spa & Wellness Center, richly appointed meeting facilities and abundant amenities for guests like horseback riding, archery range, large pool and whirlpool, tennis courts and miles of hiking. The property is offered unencumbered by management.

Travelers who subscribe to Conde Nast Traveler magazine have voted Santa Fe as one of their favorite destinations in the US.  It is the 21st time the city has been honored in the Best in the World Readers’ Choice Awards.  Rated on ambiance, culture/sites, friendliness, lodging, restaurants and shopping, Santa Fe was selected as the fourth most popular travel city in the U.S.
