American Liberty Hospitality and Investment Partner, Gentry Mills Capital,
Acquire the 97-room Alden Hotel Houston-Downtown in Texas

New Management Team - General Manager, Nick Massad III
and Director of Sales & Marketing, Dawna Calderon

August 22, 2012 - Alden Houston, the 97-room downtown hotel at 1117 Prairie, has been acquired by Houston-based American Liberty Hospitality and its investment partner, Gentry Mills Capital, of Dallas, Texas.

Alden’s new management team includes General Manager, Nick Massad III and Director of Sales & Marketing, Dawna Calderon, both of whom served in management positions at Four Seasons Houston.  Calderon also previously served as Director of Group Sales at Hotel Icon.

“First on the agenda is enhancing our guestrooms, meeting spaces, restaurant and bar along with every aspect of guest service to make sure we create the best possible experience for both our weekday business travelers and our weekend leisure guests,” says Massad.

The property is walking distance from the downtown business district, George R. Brown Convention Center, local courthouses, Minute Maid Park, the Theatre District, nightlife and the downtown light rail system.

Its 7,000 square feet of meeting and event space includes The Veranda, one of downtown’s most-prized wedding, meeting and event venues.   The climate-controlled rooftop space, which accommodates up to 200, provides natural light and sensational views of downtown Houston.

Alden Houston is also home to award-winning restaurant, *17, and the popular Sam Bar, both ideal for private dining, small meetings and events.

The historic property, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, opened as the Sam Houston Hotel in 1924.  It re-opened in 2002 after an extensive renovation.

American Liberty purchased Alden Houston from Northwood Hospitality of New York. American Liberty also operates Embassy Suites Houston-Downtown, Hilton Garden Inn Galleria, and Hilton Garden Inn Energy Corridor, all of which were developed with funding provided by Gentry Mills Capital.  Compass Lodging Advisors, of Dallas, Texas, served as the exclusive advisor to American Liberty in the purchase of Alden Houston.
