Paso Robles in California Create their Own Boutique Wine

Handcrafted Wine, From Harvest to Bottling, Launches in June 2012

PASO ROBLES, CA – MAY 25, 2012
- After two years of hard work and dedication, La Quinta Inn & Suites Paso Robles, recently recognized by the La Quinta corporate office as “2011 Inn of the Year,” will be the first hotel in California’s Central Coast region to release their own handcrafted custom wine this June. Spearheaded by General Manager Victor Popp, he and his staff were involved every step of the way in the creation of “Inn-viting La Quinta Cuvee,” a proprietors blend of 20% Primitivo and 80% Petite Sirah. The wine will be bottled at the end of May and available in June in the hotel’s wine store and poured by Popp for guests at the hotel’s complimentary evening wine and gourmet cheese receptions.

Influenced by the burgeoning travel destination of Paso Robles, the fastest growing wine region in California, La Quinta Inn & Suites brings a unique and personalized wine experience to their guests. “Many hotels have branded wines with their own logo on another winemaker’s bottle,” says Popp. “Through our shared passion for wine and being in the heart of Paso Robles wine country, the staff and I decided to take this idea to an entirely new level by creating our own boutique wine from start to finish.”

The adoration and appreciation of wine at La Quinta Inn & Suites Paso Robles starts with Frank Arciero, hotel owner and founder of EOS Winery, and carries through to Popp and his staff. From meeting in the fields at 6 a.m. to pick the necessary one ton of grapes, to the arduous “punch downs” during the fermentation process, all the way to selecting the French oak barrels, Popp and his staff were 100% involved in this labor of love.

Popp was invited to create his own wine by Sculpterra Winemaker Paul Frankel. The grapes were harvested from a Sculpterra Vineyard in Paso Robles and aged in French oak barrels for 18 months. There are only 50 cases of this first issue 2010 handcrafted wine. Popp recently commissioned local Paso Robles painter and gourmet chef Andre Everseng to create a custom painting of the hotel’s Tuscany themed lobby, which is being used for the wine label design.

In celebration of the release of their custom wine and being awarded “2011 Inn of the Year,”La Quinta Inn & Suites Paso Robles is hosting a series of special events throughout the month of June. To share these accomplishments with their guests, a complimentary wine and gourmet cheese reception led by Popp will be held every evening from5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.  Guests will have the opportunity to taste the hotel’s custom wine, along with other local vintner “staff picks” selected from their vast inventory of their onsite retail wine shop. A different winery will be featured each night, and winemakers and tasting room staff will be on hand to answer questions about the wine and their “behind the scenes” winery experiences. Throughout the month, there will also be chances to win overnight stays at this award winning hotel, and bottles of La Quinta’s newly branded wine with personalized custom labels.
