HSMAI Greater New York Chapter Presents 2012
Annual Hospitality Awards of Excellence

NYC & Company Recognized for Significant Impact on Tourism
with the Frank W. Berkman Tourism Achievement Award


NEW YORK, NY (May 22, 2012) – The Greater New York Chapter of the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI) has named the 2012 honorees for the Annual Hospitality Awards of Excellence.  The awards were presented on May 14th along with the 19th Annual Frank W. Berkman Tourism Achievement Award, this year going to NYC & Company.

For 2012, the HSMAI Greater New York Chapter named six individuals honored for their outstanding work and dedication to the hospitality industry and the sales and marketing profession.  The following honorees were named for 2012:
  • Hospitality Professional of the Year: Paula S. Horowitz, Director of Tourism, Grand Central Partnership
  • General Manager of the Year: Hervé Houdré, Regional Director of Operations and General Manager, InterContinental New York Barclay
  • Sales & Marketing Executive of the Year: Dan Paradiso, CMP, Director of Group Sales, Highgate Hotels New York
  • Revenue Manager of the Year: Justin L. Kellerman, Director of Revenue/Duty Manager, The Mark Hotel
  • Revenue Management Executive of the Year: Samir Bhatnagar, CRM, Director of Inventory Management/Revenue, NYC Marriott Hotels
  • Hospitality Student of the Year: Thomas J. Burke, Cornell University
“These six individuals were the tops among our outstanding hospitality industry executives [and student] who excelled in keeping New York City a leading tourist destination despite the challenges we have faced over the last few years in terms of the economy,” said Lucille Yokell, CHME, Director of Awards & Recognition for the HSMAI Greater New York Chapter and Director of Sales & Marketing for the Hotel Wellington.

Selected by the Past Presidents Council of the HSMAI Greater New York Chapter, in recognition of their significant contributions to the tourism industry in New York City, NYC & Company was honored as the 19th recipient of  the Frank W. Berkman Tourism Achievement Award.

The award was presented by Markus Boeker, Immediate Past President of the HSMAI Greater New York Chapter and Senior Market Manager, Orbitz Worldwide, and accepted by George Fertitta, CEO, NYC & Company.  "The impact of NYC & Company on our hospitality industry is intrinsic to our annual Frank W. Berkman Tourism Achievement Award as their dedicated team contributes to tourism in our great city each and every day – 365 days a year," said Boeker.

Frank W. Berkman, CHME, was a former Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of HSMAI for 16 years. This award was created in 1994 by the Past President’s Council of the HSMAI Greater New York Chapter and was named after Berkman because of his dedication to building HSMAI into the highly-influential international hospitality industry organization it is today.
