Glen Allen (Richmond), VA, June 2012 --- A landmark and a legend, the Liberty Golden Eagle soars again over the golden dome of the Jefferson Building at The Wyndham Virginia Crossings Hotel and Conference Center. The 2500-pound sculpture was re-christened The Liberty Golden Eagle in ceremonies that returned the eagle to its perch 75 feet above the ground, and served to cap the first phase of a $3 Million Renovation program at the elegant hotel. After a major repair and re-gilding, The Liberty Golden Eagle was re-dedicated to the men and women of the US Armed Forces. General Manager Bob Nelson presented donations to representatives of USO Hampton Roads and the Richmond Fisher House, two local organizations providing support for America’s military and their families. The re-launch of the Liberty Golden Eagle "tops off" Phase 1 of a $3 million renovation program at Wyndham Virginia Crossings Hotel & Conference Center. This phase included the installation of state-of-the-art technology in the property’s dedicated conference center; the renovation of hotel lobbies, meeting and function space; the complete refurbishment of The Tavern bar & restaurant; the addition of exquisite new Jefferson Gardens as an homage to the nation’s third President, as well as a scenic pergola and a putting green; refreshed reception areas and recreational facilities. Phase II plans are underway for renovation of all 183 guestrooms and suites, to be completed by 2013. THE EAGLE HAS LANDED ---Re-christened the Liberty Golden Eagle in ceremonies honoring the US Armed Forces and their families, the landmark sculpture was returned to its perch atop the Jefferson Building of Wyndham Virginia Crossings Hotel & Conference Center in Glen Allen, VA, outside of Richmond. The 2500-pound sculpture, gilded in 24 carat gold leaf, was brought to earth for major repairs and repainting and carefully repositioned via a 160-ton crane, operated by the Chesin Construction Company of Glen Allen. The Liberty Golden Eagle’s return “tops off” Phase 1 of a $3 million renovation of the property’s interior and exterior spaces, including its dedicated conference center, public rooms, restaurant and outdoor event space. About the Liberty Golden Eagle. For 30 years, Glen Allen’s fabled Golden Eagle has spread its 24-carat wings a full 75 feet above the green lawns of the Wyndham Virginia Crossings Hotel & Conference Center. But the years aloft and the winds of hurricane Irene took their toll and on June 4, 2012, the 2500 pound eagle was carefully lowered to earth for a major refurbishment in its “nest” beside the Jefferson Building. The eagle was installed in the mid-1980s when the Wyndham Virginia Crossings was the headquarters of Figgie International. Legend has it that Chairman Harry Figgie won the eagle in a golf match at the adjacent Crossings Golf Course. A plaque to be installed in the hotel’s Jefferson Gardens will commemorate the Liberty Golden Eagle’s rededication, and will read as follows: The Liberty Golden Eagle Rededicated this day, June 11, 2012, to the men and women of the US Armed Forces who have sacrificed so much in the defense of liberty. Cast in bronze and copper, and gilded in 24k gold, the Liberty Golden Eagle proudly soars high atop Jefferson Hall, a symbol of remembrance, rebirth, and renewal. I
know not what course others may take;
but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death! Patrick
