The Greater Miami & The Beaches Hotel Association Promotes Sustainability
Practices to Hotel Members and Suppliers


Hotelier and Sustainable Hospitality Advocate Hervé Houdré Headlines the Association's
Sustainable Hospitality Council Luncheon on June 21st at the InterContinental Miami



Miami Beach, FL (June 5, 2012) – In an effort to educate hotel and allied members on sustainability practices, the Greater Miami & The Beaches Hotel Association’s (GMBHA) Sustainable Hospitality Council will host a luncheon featuring “Sustainable Hospitality Advocate” Hervé Houdré, Regional Director and General Manager of InterContinental New York Barclay.

Mr. Houdré will share the InterContinental New York Barclay’s eco-friendly practices including the hotel’s successful honeybees program that help pollinate the rooftop herb and fruit garden and produce honey for use in culinary dishes. Robert Hill, General Manager, InterContinental Miami, will join Mr. Houdré for a moderated session where he’ll discuss the Miami hotel’s green operations. This year the InterContinental Miami was named an “Environmental Quality Achievement Award” winner by the GMBHA.

Hervé Houdré was named "2006 Independent Hotelier of the World" by HOTELS magazine. He serves on the NY Hotel Association Executive Committee and Board of Directors and NYC & Company Board as well as on the Board of GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council). A leader in Sustainable Hospitality, Houdré published Sustainable Hospitality©, a white paper utilized by Cornell University’s Center for Hospitality Research. He has co-edited a book named Hotel Sustainable Development: Principles and Best Practices, published in 2011 by American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute.

The Sustainable Hospitality Council event will be held on Thursday, June 21st at the InterContinental Miami starting with a networking and business expo at 11:30 a.m. followed by the luncheon from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. GMBHA members receive one complimentary admission. The Greater Miami & The Beaches Hotel Association’s Sustainable Hospitality Council was created to advance the awareness and adoption of sustainable practices by providing guidance, expertise and resources to Association members.  The Council also works to increase visibility of members' sustainability practices in domestic and international markets to promote the Miami hospitality industry’s image.
