Grande Colonial hotel in La Jolla reports that its first quarter
performance
was one of the best ever. — Grande Colonial La Jolla March was very, very good to San Diego hotels. After months of being an also-ran in the race for overnight visitors, San Diego led its California rivals in year-over-year revenue growth in March, when spring break typically drives traffic to the region. The county even bested San Francisco, which has been one of the nation's superstar growth markets in the tourism industry. Revenues per available room, the standard barometer for measuring the economic health of the lodging industry, rocketed by nearly 15 percent in March compared with the same month a year earlier, according to data provided by Smith Travel Research. That was the highest growth rate for the top markets in California and was third highest in the country, behind Nashville and Oahu.
