W New York Completes Redesign of Meeting and Event Space

Plans for Lobby Renovation to Occur Later in 2012

New York, NY – March 21, 2012 – W New York today announced the complete redesign of its 8 meeting and event spaces including the hotel’s signature 3,690 square foot Great Room.  Designed in collaboration with New York based interior firm d-ash design, each modern space combines form, function and cutting edge design to offer a sophisticated urban escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.  Inspired by the dualities of the New York landscape from glamorous grandeur to subtle sophistication, business center by day and glittering destination by night, W New York’s 8,508 square feet of renovated areas reflect the eclectic elements created by the city’s diverse spirit to offer the ideal location from corporate meeting to social gathering.

New York’s dynamic energy is brought to life through lighting, color, pattern and furnishings as each design element offers a subtle nod to iconic Manhattan.  Celebrated architectural landmarks appear on the window scrims in each meeting room and a faint shadow of the city’s skyline on the area’s newly carpeted floor highlight New York’s unique character.  Modern lighting and complete reconfiguration ensure elevated functionality and flexibility, easily transforming a daytime meeting room into an evening event space.

The Great Room, which has played host to hundreds of weddings, concerts, and high-profile events, including a Symmetry Live performance by CeeLo Green and the annual Taste of Tennis celebration, has been reimagined with major updates from floor to ceiling.  The carpet is a subtle symphony to the city lights, while the ceiling is adorned by a stunning glass sculpture that celebrates the Manhattan’s bright lights and gridded order.  The contemporary chandelier includes hundreds of suspended glass panels lit by LED lights, allowing for endless colored and neutral lighting options for business gatherings, live performances, and weddings.

Assembly 3, looking over the hotel’s spacious Living Room is the perfect location for a post meeting reception, offering a sleek modern oasis. The area features a long modular sofa which is backed by a screen of upright metal bands, creating a layer of privacy while subtly paying reference to New York’s vertical nature. A number of seating areas have been created to allow for a private escape or small group gatherings. The re-imagined Assembly 2 and Assembly 1 fuse flexible layouts with energized breakout spaces and peaceful reflection areas.

Later this year, the hotel’s Living Room, W’s take on the traditional hotel lobby, will undergo a complete overhaul as well, updating its iconic David Rockwell designed décor. Details on the design are forthcoming. These renovations join earlier updates to the hotel including the 2008 renovation of all 688 guest rooms and the 2010 renovation of the iconic Gerber Group bar, Whiskey Blue.
