January 9, 2012 - A LEADING Canadian hotel chain has opened its first UK site. The multi-million pound Sandman Signature Hotel Newcastle, has been created in what was the former headquarters of the Scottish and Newcastle Brewery in the city centre and is now is entering the final stages of a multi-million pound investment with its first phase now open to the public.

The 175-bedroom hotel is a member of the Sandman Hotel Group - Canada’s fastest-growing, privately-owned hospitality group with more than 200 jobs  created across every area, from construction through to operations.

The stylish, four-star hotel will incorporate two on-site conference rooms and free, high-speed internet access to appeal to business travellers, as well as a variety of room types, including fully-furnished, self-catering suites.  The UK’s first Shark Club Gastro Bar will also open on the lobby level and will provide 24 hour room service to hotel residents.

The new hotel is within close proximity to key Newcastle attractions such as St. James’ Park, Grey Street, the Theatre Royal, China Town, Eldon Square and Castle Keep. Metro and rail stations are all within walking distance.
