Jan. 25, 2012--The Memphis-based segment of Hilton Worldwide's portfolio launched 85 new hotels in 2011, including its first property in India and a handful in Europe.

The four brands, Hampton Hotels, Hilton Garden Inn, Homewood Suites and Home2 Suites, accounted for half the corporation's 170 new hotels opened last year, officials said Tuesday.

At year's end, the Memphis division was responsible for 2,707 hotels with 289,650 rooms and a slate of nearly 600 more hotels in planning or development stages.

The brands helped Hilton Worldwide stake a claim as the fastest-growing major hotel company, with a portfolio up 29 percent since June 2007.

The parent company said it has more than 10 percent of the U.S. room supply market share and more than 18 percent of currently programmed room growth.

"In recent years Hilton Worldwide has thrived by successfully navigating a number of challenging macroeconomic factors and pursuing an aggressive global growth strategy," president and CEO Christopher J. Nassetta said. "Our momentum will continue with one of the largest pipelines in our history and in the industry."

Hilton Worldwide bases focused service brands in Memphis and operates luxury (Waldorf Astoria and Conrad) and full-service brands (Hilton, DoubleTree, Embassy Suites) from McLean, Va., where the company is headquartered.

Hilton Worldwide spokeswoman Katherine Mikesell said Hampton Hotels added 50 hotels in 2011, including its first in India last month. It has nearly 1,850 hotels and 330 planned or under development.

Hilton Garden Inn opened 28 hotels, including five in Europe, to boost its total to 540. It has 140 hotels in the works.

Homewood Suites has 310 open and nearly 70 in the pipeline. The newest brand, Home2 Suites, opened its first seven hotels last year and has 56 on the drawing board.
